EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title - Bob

A user here recommended Capstan to me, and it's ruined me. In my year of smoking so far, it is by far the best tobacco I've ever tried. I thought I liked the 9 other types in my cabinet, but now I feel like I've been trying to like them. I lit the Capstan and I couldn't put the pipe down. I am now smoking through my cabinet with a new standard - and so far none have lived up. I have a few more to go through. My question is, how much should I like all the tobaccos in my cabinet? Will I find a set that I adore? Or, will some be just ok and I'll keep them around? How much do you enjoy all of the tobaccos in your rotation? How long did it take you to find the ones you enjoy the absolute most?

Here
Let the honeymoon wear off a bit and it will likely find its proper place in your rotation with your other blends.

When I first tried ODF and Dark Flake, I couldn't get enough for a while. Now, they must take a number just like everyone else.

Think of eating your favorite dish for dinner every night into perpetuity. It may eventually become tiresome.

That all said, however, there are many "one blend" smokers out there, so maybe my experience will be nothing like yours.

Either way, congrats on finding one you love!

I like variety. My favorite Virginia is Fribourg & Treyer Cut Virginia Plug. But not by a huge margin. I often find new blends I enjoy. It's one of the attractions of pipe smoking. You should enjoy what you smoke and trying new blends. If you find you're 100% satisfied with capstan, you should smoke capstan. Don't live in fear there is a utopian blend lurking out there you have yet to try.

Don't over think things, just enjoy.

Forgive the thread derail.

@hoosierpipeguy I just finish my first taste of F&T, some aged Vintage flake I got in trade. Do you know how it compared to the VCP?

Thanks.

They're somewhat similar flavors. I find Vintage has sharper flavors, a bit more in your face. Very, very good. PM me your address, I'll send you a tin of CVP.

Capstan was my first love, also. It was my first real taste of legitimately good tobacco. If it wasn't so expensive compared to other favorites of mine, I'd smoke a heck of a lot more of it! If you like Capstan, I think you will like G.L. Pease Union Square as well. That's become my affordable Capstan haha!

I'm jealous of people who are happy with just a few tobaccos. I must have at least 70 or more open containers that I am scrounging through at the moment. Yikes!

Yeah, I've got a few tins but haven't tried it because I tend to buy a crap ton of things I like. I've always wondered about the premium charged for Capstan.

Thanks for the replies everyone. After reading around here, and getting great suggestions, I've ordered HH Dark Fired and C&D Pegasus. The journey continues! And I'm still loving capstan, def will be stocking up. Such an agreeable smoke for my tastes somehow.

Capstan ruined me, as well.

I was quite happy with SWR and 1-Q until the internet came along. I don't remember what it was about that little square tin that made me order it but, after many a year, it still makes up 2/3 of my smokes.

I do smoke other stuff, mainly Va's and VaPers but, Capstan is still an itch that I just gotta scratch.
