I think carvers have to try some far-out shapes and textures to come up with really good and original pipes,
and not just march out the shapes we all know and love from the 1920's, so they do some pipes that are not
universally appealing, or really that attractive to anyone other than themselves. But that is necessary in some
sense to get to the good ones. Also, one man's trash is another's treasure, and someone might find even this
pipe unique and interesting, even though I can't see it.
