Didn’t try flossing? ?

As in don’t? ?

Brush and floss 3x daily after every meal.

Bad oral hygiene can have lead to serious heart problems.
My dental hygienist says I have the cleanest teeth if all her patients, and my dentist says my teeth are in excellent condition.

There's a reason I don't floss often (though I do floss).

You don't know my health and I'll thank you to stop trying to be my doctor and stop making presumptions about me, my diet, and my health now. It's kind of rude and starting to get on my nerves. Plus, nobody likes unsolicited advice and nobody asked about health, just palate cleansing.

Also, you're supposed to wait an hour after eating before brushing because the acids in food can soften your enamel, so immediate brushing can actually wear out your enamel faster. Believe it or not, you can brush too much. I have a specific dental routine that works for me. There's also varying recommendations as to how often to brush.

If my insurance agent, bless her heart, hadn't made a totally unsolicited observation that I looked jaundiced I'd still have my gallstones and be very, very sick. Some of do appreciate a well intended comment about our health. Accept such graciously and either ignore or follow but, attacking a well intentioned menmber, kinda gauche.

Another generality shot down. Most here offer up usually benign advice when a person requests assistance. Now, a medical diagnosis, other than to see one's practitioner, can be dangerous.

I quite enjoy no teeth at all. No plans for dentures or implants.
Love smoking without my “teeth“ they sit in a denture bath most of the time ,

I hate to say it, because it’s probably not a suggestion that you’ll be keen to implement, but ditch the cigs. If you’re smoking them daily I can’t see how your pallet wouldn’t be perpetually tarnished
True this especially menthols that’s a palate definer right there I too came to the pipe from cigs , and after all the beautiful tastes and aromas from a good English, Dark fired Burley, or VaPer, couldn’t imagine going back to all those chemicals , especially all the additives that make you want another hit way too frequently. But to each his own if the OG Gauloises was still available I’m sure I would partake for a treat here and there , we all like what we like…

Ever see what comes out of a pipe stem when you clean it? That's sticking to your tongue as well. Several of us here go back and forth between cigarettes snd pipes without one noticeably affecting the other

I use a Water Pik and a tongue scraper. Scrape as far back as you can, don’t use the scabby things on the back of toothbrushes. Get a flat bent metal scraper, Ayurvedic tongue scrape it’s often called.

I am 100% convinced moisture level affects the post-smoke palate. When my tobacco is too dry I get far more of an ashy aftertaste which I find annoying. The wetter it is the cooler it is, you might have to relight but if you don’t like this maybe try opting for slightly too wet and let dry a few minutes before.

Just today I adjusted moisture levels of some.

So, I'll try to keep this brief.

I always drink water while I smoke, but depending on the blend, might also have a cup of coffee or a glass of cranberry juice. Never felt the need to cleans palate before smoking. I have a no-alcohol mouthwash (Crest Pro-Health Clinical, active ingredient is CPC but the mouthwash also has a heavy amount of peroxide) that I use after smoking.

Despite brushing my teeth after and mouthwash, my palate is still affected. Virginia based (especially those without bright Virginias) tends to make my menthol cigarettes the rest of the day taste warmer, thicker, more bread-y etc. and burley based generally makes my later cigarettes taste sweeter, lighter, etc. Most food tastes unaffected, but some will be affected (Dr Pepper seems to taste the same no matter what, spring mix salad with 1,000 Island dressing changes, Totino's Party Pizzas change, red meats don't, etc).

Anyway, this taste perception lasts all day, even a full 8 hours after having a bowl, again despite gargling non-alcohol mouthwash (that has peroxide) and brushing my teeth. I've also tried swishing/drinking straight lemon juice and eating pickles after. Most cases, the taste change is not bad, but a few days ago (3 or 4 now) I had some Sutliff Black Cordial and, while that tasted good, made my later cigarettes taste like charcoal briquettes soaked in cat piss and most food tasted terrible, and it blew out my palate for 2 whole days. My palate is only just now starting to get back to normal yesterday and today, but I'm taking a day off today from the pipe just to be sure.

I don't want to deal with that again. Sure, avoiding that particular blend is an option, but what about if I try a new blend to similar effects?

So, is there a better way to effectively cleanse the palate AFTER smoking? I've tried looking on Google but that's no help, almost everything is about palate cleansing specifically for cigars and specifically as prep before smoking, very little about after and of what little I can find, nothing is having any effect (water, mouthwash, peroxide, tooth brushing, lemon juice, pickles, crackers). Are there any other options left to try?
personally and ymmv I've found that the more gently I smoke the pipe the less I run into any issues like that. Weirdly you get more flavor but it doesn't stick the same way. Who knows might just be me. Personally though I'd blame the menthol cigs, why because I can blame them for anything I want and will not pass on the opportunity to do so.

I remember reading something about oil pulling being a good cleanser. Never tried it, though.
it's not. It's part of people jumping on the ayurvedic bandwagon. The thing is they did that because in some regions of where that culture flourished it was wasteful to use and store water when oil could do the same thing. But basically it does the same thing water will do if you add the same herbs to it.

Good practice but not the same thing. Using coconut oil is far different and has different benefits.

And the "moisture level" of the smoker is even more important.
Many individuals are fairly dehydrated.
Especially those that drink dr. pepper and similar.

I think many can understand that your health and your palate are intimately intertwined. Perhaps some comments come off in a manner unwelcomed, but you did in fact share "health information" when you elaborated on your food and drink. I think all were trying to assist in your query.

You may analyze whether or not you are well hydrated and perform actions you find appropriate for that scenario if it seems to be a factor. I believe it has been a factor for my own enjoyment results.

So, my answer here may not be of benefit to the OP…. and I do brush my teeth and floss regularly (not for “palate cleansing” but to try to take as good a care of my chompers as I can because I really, really like chewing food and prefer to try to keep my own teeth rather than get a replacement set ?), but:

For me, I actually ENJOY the flavors that linger in my mouth from smoking my pipe. Yes, these flavors MAY alter a bit the flavors of certain foods at times….. but for me, it is not in a negative fashion…. to me, it is just part and parcel of being a person who enjoys smoking a pipe.

Why do you think little thin slices of Ginger come with Sushi, and various Japanese meals? Because it’s there to cleanse your palate with. Ginger is one of the best palate cleansers.

Now, if you also want something healthy to drink too, check out this Tulsi Tea;

Maybe you know about Holy Basil?

I can tell you, the health benefits of Holy Basil are amazing, and this tea really keeps my mouth fresh. I find this tea absolutely amazing to sip while smoking my pipes, of course you don’t have to drink it hot, if you want to let it cool down, drink it room temp, or like ice tea.

Both the lemon and ginger are nicely balanced and subtle. It’s not a spicy/hot sensation of ginger.
I grow some of my own herbs, and Tulsi (Holy Basil) is one of my favorites. It is a fantastic tea with a pleasing flavor and exceptional benefits.

people say that but use that redflag for bs term "toxins", but every serious look at it says it does the same thing water does. And the ancient texts about the practice often label it as a substitute fos water based concoctions. But if it works for you the only harm is fattening others wallets.
