Several months ago, there was a thread asking the question of whether a broken tenon could be fixed. The consensus among the many was that the answer was that "it wouldn't be the same unless an "expert" was able to fix it and that there are hardly any of those left.
What Would You Do With This Broken Castello :: General Pipe Smoking Discussion - https://pipesmagazine.com/forums/threads/what-would-you-do-with-this-broken-castello.85360/page-2
Anyway , I dropped my Stanwell 91 and broke the tenon. I recalled being told how in no uncertain terms - there were no real pipe people left who could fix it.
So, I sent it to "Rich" at Briarville. He repaired the tenon and I am happy to report that the fit and the finish are as good as new.
This isn't the first time he has worked on a tenon for me. And, knowing me, it won't be the last time.
I add this to the forum not be smug or gloating, but to assure pipe smokers who drop and break their pipes that "All Is not lost".
I couldn't be more happy with the repair and I stand by my statement that tenon repair is not only possible, but it is practical.
Obviously, this is a very special Stanwell and those that know its history can attest to that. But more importantly to me, it is a magnificent smoker. This is a pipe that will not be sold, but if it was, it value is not diminished and for that, I say, "Thank you, Rich".
By the way, there has been some talk about how Briarville once ruined a very nice old pipe with a repair. The owner of Briarville is aware of the controversy and he shared with me that he has searched not just his records, but the records of the previous owner of Briarville and can not show that the customer in question was actually a question. Regardless, he stands by his work and will and is happy to fix any pipes anyone believes were "botched" by Briarville - either by Rich or Ric, the previous owner.
This thread is unsolicited and I create it only in the interest of demonstrating that this type of repair is possible and accessible to pipe owners.
Have at it and please feel free to disagree.
