I have a lovely old pipe, I reckon about 1920 -1930 complete with its case. The only marking on it is a small galleon with the words 'Peter Pump' and on the other side 'Bruyere Extra.' I cannot find any reference to this anywhere so am hoping someone on these boards might know. I've no idea how to upload an image on here when I click on Image it is asking me for a 'URL' whatever that is. So here is a link to where the pipe is. https://goo.gl/Z4Ltx9

That is a great looking pipe, and it would be a fun conversation starter!
How much is that in real money?

Bruyère is indeed a French word for briar, but it doesn't mean the pipe was made in France.
But how in the world could you determine what nomenclature was on the shank? The photos are pretty dreadful for a pro selling pipes on the 'net.

Actually jpmcwjr I think you will find that 'Bruyère' is the French word for 'heather'. 'Briar' is the Anglicised corruption of that word, but your contribution is greatly valued.

I like the pipe. Did you buy it? If nobody knows anything about it, how is it being dated to the 20's??

How can you see the nomenclature from those poor photos? Unless you are "Bob's Briars", and then I have insulted your photographer, but you really should bring up your game.
We can debate the meaning of "bruyère" at another time! Yes, it's derived from the French word for heather, but has come to mean the equivalent of "briar".
