Here's how to control PAD. Buy a couple of really nice Meers. You'll enjoy smoking them and watching the coloring progression so much , you'll want to smoke them every day. Will minimize the desire for more Briars. And why buy a bunch of Meers when the more you smoke one, the faster it colors? No need to thank me, just enjoy the Meers.

About to buy a whole pile of pipes…
Some clays, different shapes to try, a couple to share at an upcoming camp trip.
A small altinay
A small briar Cutty, for times I need to be dressed fancy.
A pipe tomahawk, because it combines two of my favorite tools :)
Some tobacco too…

Every time I go to shrink down the cart, I add something instead…
Can anybody provide a good reason to stave off the purchase?
Wrong place to ask. Really, really wrong place to ask!
You're making me feel MUCH better about myself.

I know of only one way to reduce your pipe purchasing: stay off the internet.

I love all the humorous answers.

But, I'll offer a sincere one this time (and it applies to much more than just PAD):

Part of the way that temptation works is by tricking us into thinking that our desire will only keep increasing, so that we'll be more and more unsatisfied if we miss this opportunity.

It's a lie. The truth is that, if we force ourselves to turn away from something that we should turn away from, we find that before long our head clears, and we're glad that didn't make that decision then. Sometimes we can't even remember why we found the thing so compelling.

Countless, countless times I've jonesed for a pipe on smokingpipes or elsewhere, but finally told myself that I just couldn't justify it ... then a week later I felt perfectly content, no regret, and even glad that I'd put the money to better use. Looking at the same pipe then, I could shrug and feel no desire.

Lust of any sort is a temporary insanity. If you can get past it, you get past it.

If you want something, there is nothing wrong with having it, whether by buying or earning it. This is part of pleasure in life.

If you genuinely think that you need help stopping, and find your purchases to be compulsive or regretful, you are not alone, and can read about this type of behavior for self reflection. I encourage anyone to reflect on themselves when it comes to excessive buying. Many times, the search for the next best can result in a state of continual dissatisfaction only interrupted by small periods of indulgence.

Good luck my friend!

When I want to buy less pipes I preset conditions under which I might consider a purchase. I usually link these conditions to the reason(s) I am buying less pipes. Only you know your reasons for buying less pipes. If you have clear reasons for making decisions on pipes, you won’t say yes to every one. It is very similar to the suggestions @mso489 and @TheIronMonkey made. It may help. Other times I buy 20 in a month because I don’t want to buy less. I’ll be honest and say that I have it more under control but PAD is real.
