Holy shit!! Honestly that's beautiful. I'm up to 106 pipes and don't see any reason to stop adding to the stable. People collect all sorts of things and pipes make me happy.

I agree with this, I always wanted to collect something but wanted it to be something that was useful to me. Pipes tick that box and a lot more. My collecting has changed over time but I still enjoy adding pipes.

If it’s not going to cause hardship, it might be fine to go nuts. But, you might gain a better appreciation for each pipe if you purchase one, smoke it over a period of time and get a real sense of what it offers you. That experience might inform future purchases and promote being more selective with each purchase.

I often see pipes that catch my eye, and I keep an eye on them, but don’t necessarily buy right away. But, I know I really want it when I start revisiting it repeatedly—that’s when I know I would be sad if I missed out. Then, I’m pretty confident that’s a “must have” pipe.
Love this advice!!

Seriously what works for me is thinking about the pipes I have now and wondering how I feel about smoking them less often. It makes me really ask if it's worth having the other pipe. Puts me in a situation where I really need a reason to get another pipe. It's got to either offer something I don't have or be nice enough that the other pipes which I know well can rest a bit more. Which as the collection is a little bigger the answer is I don't really want to get that pipe now. I need a nice large pipe for those rare times where I can smoke as long as I want. Hanging out somewhere that smoking is allowed and encouraged.

Yeah that’s an easy one. Just pick up fly fishing.
Start off with a Winston pure 4wt with a matching Bauer RVR reel. Head out to Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. Use that 4wt on the Snake, Gros Ventre, Firehole, Madison, Henry’s Fork…… go home and turn on the computer. Start looking into what went wrong.
Problem solved.

Some people think fly fishing is expensive. Then they meet guys who buy bass boats.

I've re-read the original post several times and I think that the OP knows the right answer. Time to man up and do the right thing, you don't need us to tell you what it is.
Yes Sir! I figured out what I don’t need, and am staggering the rest so I can order with a clean conscience.

Hearing others perspectives did help me to be aware of what I really want to do.

To me I always ask myself "how often am I going to use use this pipe?" and "what purpose will this pipe serve beyond another piece for the collection?" If I don't see it being part of my regular rotation I pass on it. Right now I have a briar for Virginias and VaPers, a briar for Englishes, a cob for aromatics and codgers, and a meer for when the others are resting. For now I'm not actively seeking to get anymore pipes, so unless I see a great estate at an antiques shop I won't be getting anymore. I might get myself something nice with Christmas money this year like a Savinelli, Peterson, or anything Danish, but that depends entirely on whether I feel I'm ready by then to truly appreciate a higher end smoekr.

I am completely powerless & useless in this regard.

Only thing that may help is do a financial calculation on the average market return over a given time and possibly shock yourself over the future value of PAD money spent today. But a new problem arises, how much will those pipes cost in the future? 😜
