My tins arrived this morning.

Having a bowl of the XX Dark Flake now after dinner; it's definitely a strong one. The 18-yo perique is the star here, not subtle at all but does have some a certain complexity.

As an Oriental freak I'm really excite to try to XX Flake now.
Did you try the XX Flake yet?

Wow 3+ years and that teases out your first post?

I'll try my best to do it justice.

The short and simple answer is: it's delicious!

A super smooth and creamy Va/Per blend that is bold in flavor and Vitamin N. I would recommend it to people who enjoy the taste of some older Elizabethan Mix (3/4+ years maybe?).

Orientals are probably there but to my tongue it's just a hint in the background supporting the blend and maybe providing that creamy taste/feel between the bready virginias and the Perique. And even while smoking a bowl in a corny now, I can't really describe the Perique. All I can say is that I really enjoy the slight spice it brings and tingling retrohale. If I'm pressed for an analogy I'd say it has the feeling of a Masala Chai.

I definitely prefer this to the XX Dark Flake - which is more about the stoved red Virginias and the Perique takes more of a center stage.

Nice review, thanks!

Got my tins yesterday, and tried a bowl of each.

These are both fantastic smokes, and I love how C and D have taken the aged Perique and turned it into two pretty different smokes that each highlight the leaf in their own way.

The dark was good, but the XX Flake is already one of my favorite VaPer flakes. Definitely worth the hype.

Just finished my 1st tin of the Dark. Great stuff.

Not sure I will order the Oriental before they sell out..

The XX is good but a little too zesty and acidic for my taste. The XX Dark on the other hand is really something to behold, very dark and rich. Im glad I have 8 tins of it.
