Hadn't heard of it prior to your post but after looking it up it's a P&C exclusive. I'll never touch it.Surprised not to see the 'Cascadia' range of plugs getting smoked / mentioned more by the Americans.
In name only. They're crumble cakes. They do make plugs. Maybe not as dense as some. The Tobacco Locator - https://www.smokingpipes.com/search/the-tobacco-locator.cfm?brandTin=43&brandTin=49&cut=14&sortOpt=default&displayNum=24
This is why I was very surprised that one of my tins of XX Flake was perfectly formed flakes, in fact there is something about the look and texture that reminds me of GH&Co’s flakes. On the other hand no one has said anything about this so I may have come across an anomaly, I’ll have to open another tin to find out. The XX Dark Flake tin that I opened couldn’t even be classified as a ready rubbed, it was totally broken up to the point of being a ribbon cut.C&D can't even produce a true flake. Well, if they do, it never makes it to market. I've seen broken flake here and there, but their "broken flake" is more of a ribbon. So confusing.

This is my point exactly. It’s like when VW made pickup trucks. It’s not a Ford F-350 or even a 150. Probably not even a Ranger, but it’s still a pickup truck.I used to dis C&D for not making proper plugs too but I’ve come to the conclusion that if they are using whole leaf, it is a proper plug. It may not be perfectly formed like the Euro-Plugs but they are indeed whole leaf pressed plugs. I wouldn’t even try ripping off pieces of Dreams of Kadath or Temple Bar, ya need a knife to get a good cut that will burn properly. So yes, the American plugs aren’t like the Euro-Plugs but I’m still glad they make them. I enjoy every plug that C&D has produced whether it’s from the Gl Pease line or their own, they are excellent plugs in their own right. Let’s be happy that they aren’t selling us crumble cakes marketed as plugs.
Folklore was sold as a cake. For me Kadath is definitely a plug. It breaks apart in layers. Haven’t tried Temple Bar so can’t comment.Kadath, Temple and even the big block of Folklore breaks apart like crumble cakes.

As do some cakes of Black Frigate and Blockade Runner but they're still cakes. A plug shouldn't peel apart at all.It breaks apart in layers.
Good analogy! This is my point exactly. It’s like when VW made pickup trucks. It’s not a Ford F-350 or even a 150. Probably not even a Ranger, but it’s still a pickup truck.
Those all look like the same blend and are obviously crumble cakes (Folklore? Isn’t that advertised as a crumble cake? I didn’t pay attention to that release)Kadath, Temple and even the big block of Folklore breaks apart like crumble cakes.
