Hey all,

A buddy of mine is getting hitched in a couple of months and as a fellow piper, i want to bring some tobacco to the bachelor party as a gift for him. As this will be an outdoors celebration, we will be smoking plenty at the tail end of a Tennessee winter. So here’s where I need help- He’s a big fan of KDF blends, of which I know little of (myself being more of an English/VaPer smoker) and I’d like to bring a tin or two.. or three of unique blends that would be up his alley. He likes that campfire/bbq flavor. I don’t mind looking for unicorns or hard to get tins as this is a special occasion and my budget is probably ~$50. So you big burley smokers out there, what do you recommend?

I would suggest HH Bold Kentucky (more KY than Old Dark Fired, which is also a goid choice). Also, GLP JackKnife Plug. If you can get them, I'd also recommend 1792 (VaKy+tonquin) and Lakeland Dark by Sam Gawith and Kendal Kentucky (pure African DFK, I believe) by GHC.

I would also recommend JackKnife plus one of the European or British blends as the former uses American DFK and the latter use some African leaf which has a bit if a different flavor profile. That way you'd get a nice mix.

Is the tobacco just for the groom, or to share? If to share, you might want to get a bag of MM seconds for those who might want to join in but don't ordinarily smoke a pipe? And of course, those who smoke pipes should bring a pipe.

the KDF is for him. I’ve got about ½ lb of 1Q and was going to pick up a couple cobs for anyone who may want to join. i remember reading on the forum someone had little starter packs for people. Couple of pipe cleaners, a cob pipe, small bag of tobacco, and box of matches. Thinking about doing the same.

Last time I was at a bachelors party it was pretty much all booze and strippers. Today its pipes and Dark Fired Kentucky? Gotta say I never saw that change coming.

Oh, there’ll be booze alright. Found a stash of 6 yr Heaven Hill BiB before the price hike. So it’ll be a celebration of Kentucky.. in Tennessee.

So a follow up to the bachelors party. It seems everyone here is surprised to the fact that "ladies of the night" were not involved as part of the usual festivities. Since this was taking place out in the 'holler of rural Tennessee, I was a little cautious on requisitioning such services. Nonetheless, with plenty shotgun shells, clay pidgeons, steaks, and booze, we still had a damn good time.

On another note, the groom to be really enjoyed the MacBaren ODF that was so kindly donated by mrenglish. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately for me, the others groomsmen weren't too taken with the cob pipes and stuck to their coffin nails. I am now the proud owner of 4 new MM cobs.
