I've started smoking some from 2014 and 2015. It is smooth and creamy with a whisper of perique. I find in a meer especially there are some malty notes that come through often. It is a really good smoke.

One of the guys at Smoking Pipes gave me a seven year old sample, and it was incredible. ?

Speaking of age making all the difference, I suggest you need to reevaluate your 2 star review of GLP Kensington. I've been smoking a 7 year old tin of that lately and find it tremendous. A bit different than the standard Balkan, but that's also it's charm. It's a top shelf smoke to be sure (at least with the age on it).

I don't doubt it may improve with age, but I can't rate a blend based on that. I have to rate a blend based on how it is when it comes to me, or I end up writing speculative subjectivity, which I don't do. It's best to review a blend as it's tinned since that's generally how companies expect us to smoke them. If I waited for seven years, I couldn't give you an accurate account on the blender's intention. That would mislead the reader.

There's probably a number of blends I ought to revisit, but I can't buy tobacco for that reason. Nobody's got that kind of money. And I'm not currently buying tobacco. If I was, I'd buy my favorites or something new that interested me. I have very seldom bought anything just to review it. That'd take more money than I have.

Here
I have everything shipped to the office these days and may or may not have a secondary stash on the shelf away from spousal eyes.
Been shipping to the office for many months now, sneaking it into the house in my backpack.

Tobacco is the 101 class. Try sneaking a 50" Mauser in or a 60 pound crate of 880 rounds of Russian surplus...

I'm getting the impression from y'all that I need to try the Sutliff Victorian Match....

I prefer Dunhill/Peterson Elizabeathan to the Sutliff match Victorian. Something in the way Sutliff processes leaf doesn't agree with me though so my opinion is pretty worthless. 507c Va Slices is good though, definitely has great potential with age.

The Sutliff offerings popped up on the $200 bulk tobacco cellar challenge thread. I’ve added 507c to my list to try some time.

The best I can describe it as being somehow flat, harsh and “dry” tasting. Glad to know it’s not just my palate, had another go at it now and thought “why did I do that?”.
I gave up on it after a few bowls. I ended up just throwing it out. I'm having the opposite problem with match Victorian. Came way moist, and it takes FOREVER to dry. And even when I do manage to dry it it bites like a mug. So, I'm leaving that one to age, as I've heard it improves.

This may be the first tobacco I throw out unless someone is in need of the meager two ounces I have. Oddly, not sure if it’s due to my natural draw but I don’t get tongue bite from slightly damp tobacco, or any sort generally.

With a few years of age, it becomes quite a good blend. Fresh, it has so much grass that it should be sold to cows to smoke. ;)
What’s your thoughts on Davidoff Flake Medallions, Jim? When smoked fresh, I think it’s the best in its class...but, admittedly, I have not tried them all.
