Indeed, caution and an easy hand are advisable. But it's also not difficult or dangerous.

I am more apt to scrape carefully with an Opinel knife, and use the Buttner for the bigger jobs.

I use reamers for cleaning up estates. The Buttner is ok, but doesn't fit all chambers, but I like the Senior better, and a slightly sharpened oyster shucker best of all. What I really need is some of those"crackers" like Georged uses.

That's what I use on all my pipes. Slow and easy is the trick...

I've got a Buttner and senior rip off but have found a Rodgers pipe knife and a bit of practice works best.

The Buttner looks like a careful hand would be needed, and at some point, as you get close to Briar, it would not work well (wrong blade angles, not parallel to the bowl).

I wouldn't put that anywhere near a meerschaum. My dear friend Dave Shain gave me one for Xmas the other year and I found it will not fit onto the bowls of ancient Victorian 'cutty' pipes that I smoke and collect.

The clip blade of a Case XX knife and sandpaper is all I use. Reamers are clumsy and too unwieldy.

I have one and use it a frequently, as it does adjust to a fairly fine point to get some bottom reach on a Dublin or Freehand. I recommend wearing a glove on the power hand.

I am going to regret asking this, but what exactly is a 'Power hand' and why is a glove necessary?
