We ordered a huge brisket for Christmas and had a lot left over, so we made a few different things with it.

Looks great, I love brisket, to bad its way to pricey as it is not a normal piece of cut, there are some online stores that deliver brisket at a hefty price.

I did 5 pounds of shortribs, which are more accessable. Glaze onions and carrots with herbs to choice in a pan, but them in the tin, put the ribs on them with SPG, poor over beefstock and balsamic vinegar untill the are about 75% covered and put them in the oven 2.5 hours at 160/320 degrees, turn every 40 minutes. Pull out the bones, cool and store in the fridge 2 hours. Make a glaze with balsamic vinegar, brown sugar and some of the stoving liquid, baste the boneless ribs and put under a grill/oven at 160/320 for 20 to 25 minutes untill the top is sticky, else baste some more and put some longer. Rest, slice and eat. Was delish! Sorry no finished product photos, forgot.

That looks great! My stomach started yelling at me just looking at the pictures. Those are my kind of meals that stick to your ribs and make you all warm and fuzzy inside. Who is the cook in your family? Kudos to the chef.
Lori and I both cook, but I do more often. I put her name by the ones she did.

Slow roast brisket, can't beat it! ?
Must be different in the states though, regarding your 'Shepherds Pie'. Here in Britain our pies can only be called a Shepherds Pie if they're made with lamb, not beef. We'd call yours a 'Cottage Pie'. Looks delicious all the same!
Right! That is a common mistake on this side of the pond. Technically it is Cottage Pie.

I just realized what you meant by “smoke ring”. Perhaps it was done in a oven.
The bark indicates low and slow smoking, sometimes there is no red smoke ring, smoke rings are mostly for bragging rights, and haven’t got any impact on taste, either way looks amazing, hope you enjoyed it!

edit: example of pronounced smoke ring on brisket (not mine)

Wow. That brisket looks mighty good in all iterations. It's a whole new meal every time, but a lot of the preparation is already done, which makes it taste even better ... to me anyway, I'm not that energized by cooking. Luckily my wife is.

Brad, that Christmas feast sounds like heaven. No wonder the family was in appetite.
