Living on the raggedy edge baby!
I stopped cleaning one of my bamboo pipes with water. The bamboo shank came off in my hand one day.
Could be it was just held together with spit. Other than that, I'm a mean mutha without a care in the world.

Half way through. Weight 200.6
Full disclosure, the alcohol immersion was diluted by some morning coffee.
Fit and finish, I don't feel so fit today, but my wife says I don't look a day over 49...

+1 for Sablebrush; As for Today I was not paying enough attention on how to properly insert the stem back into the mortise of my Santambrogio pipe,(Bings Crosby model) practically brand new one,and the mortise in this very pipe is kinda like thin, pushed the stem forward back in the mortise in one quick movement ,and then there was this that familiar cracking sound only what I hear, the result,a tiny hardly visible hair crack was exposed on the mortise,I proceeded further packing this sucker up and right away put it on the road to the repairman in Germany for metal banding, hate myself ! This now was the second time when this like carelessness had brought me unexpected expenses,so as a result, this very pipe is now anything but the good value pipe,

I'm surprised at how effective it was at removing the stain. Sure, I know nothing about how most pipes are stained, but it seems pretty effective with whatever stain that was and I never would have guessed it.
Which makes me wonder... maybe I ought to be a little more careful with how I'm splashing water around. Could it have an accumulative impact on the stain? Do you need to soak it a lot? Will just a little water remove some stain a little each time? One of my darker stained pipes does seem a little less dark now that I look at it. But maybe I'm just seeing stuff where there was nothing to see.
You've opened a can of worms.

At the conclusion of the 24 hour period, weight holds steady at 200.6, although an undetermined measure of fluid has both entered and exited the vessel.
To maintain scientific integrity, the process must be repeated to ensure accuracy...

@Jay, So far, so good. Are you wearing a lab coat and goggles throughout your experiment?

Three days in and I removed this for a quick weighing, wiped the excess water with paper towel and...... 29grams 8O Has gained approximately 8 grams and is far less buoyant than three days ago. The weight gain is not at all what I expected.

Interesting stuff. I wonder what would happen if you put in another dense piece of wood. I don't know, like oak or something? Or what else are pipes made from? Cherry, Olive? Would be interesting to see if it absorbs in a similar way.
