Jesse nails it again. No shame in dottle.Pipe smoking is a pleasure, not a stunt.
Ones that don't produce goop, and are dried before loading. For me, the question is: Are there certain tobaccos that can naturally be smoked easliy up to the bottom - or is it generally a matter of HOW you smoke a pipe ?
Bingo! Ribbon, shag, rubbed then dried flake, all can be dried down to the level where you'll taste more, and smoke more of it pleasantly, often to the heel.I find any ribbon cut, sufficiently dried out are easily smoked all the way down if I mind my packing and cadence. Fribourg & Treyer Golden Mixture, Dunhill Royal Yacht, Mac Baren Acadian Perique, Dunhill Nightcap, Rattray's Red Rapparee are all easy to pack and puff.
Boom. Times 10.Pipe smoking is a pleasure, not a stunt.
^^^^ Quote of the year right there.
I like short smokes. That doesn't mean I like to smoke quickly. What are your criterias to finish smoking a pipe - except time aspects?
Brother, you said a mouthful. Myself, I don't do it, since I'm just not usually where it's convenient to save dottles, but the benefit of it for you guys is that as expensive as your leaf is up there, it allows you to get a "free" bowl of at least *some*thing after a certain length of time. God only knows what it may *be*, like tobacco barn sweepings, but at least it means that dearly paid for stuff is going to get used up & not wasted! The more you learn, the more there is to learn.
