But the mad, dangerous avarice of the malls? Oh HELL no
Amen brother. The mass-zombie-fest that is so-called black Friday is an abominable disgrace...as it is every year.
SEASON'S BEATINGS: Shoppers punch, kick, scream; Baby hit with shoe...

One shot outside mall, brawls shut another...

BLACK FRIDAY SMACKDOWN: Men squabble over toy car...

And the chaos goes global...

Customers wear employee uniforms to sneak in to stores!

Why "Black" Friday? Purple? Red? White?
Why "Black" for a day of exuberant shopping, for Christmas no less? If you are shopping you're living the American Dream. George Carlin said (paraphrasing) Americans do two things best, eat and shop, that we's eat fried raccoon's ass if it was sold.
Malls are creepy.

It wasn’t always called ‘Black Friday’. I don’t remember when the term first came into general use. It was probably invented by some black hearted advertising type.

Why haven't you been elevated from "Preferred Member" to "Sage"?
We should start calling Jesse "SageBrush".

Well that’s downright un-American
Not from where I grew up. Used to be older folks two generations back that would jar and bury their money. Even growing up, you could hear pennies screaming in my house because they were being pinched so hard.

The earliest evidence of the phrase Black Friday applied to the day after Thanksgiving in a shopping context suggests that the term originated in Philadelphia, where it was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic that would occur on the day after Thanksgiving.

My dad's family was from Appalachia but they left for Chicago when he was about ten, He only went back once with my mom decades later but still found someone there that he had known. The closest I've ever been to people who live in the mountains was around Highlands NC, asking a guy with a denim shirt with flower crochet if I could cross his pasture. I took his words, unintelligible to me, for a "yes." He probably didn't understand me either.

I've had coon stew
I remember many a winter with either rabbit, coon, possum, or beaver in the stew pot. Strange to the younger crowd, but many a satisfied belly to us as kids.

Want to really save money? Don't buy anything.

Hahaha. That reminded me of whenever I went, "look, dad! It's 50% savings!", my father would reply, "and if I don't buy it it's 100% savings". Many times he'd oblige, but not without first saying it.

With very few notable exceptions, Black Friday consists of a few bait offers designed to get people in a frenzy and compulsively buy things they probably would've gotten cheaper any other time of the year. I much prefer the IPSD offers, the end of summer sales, Cyber Monday, etc. That said, the BOGO sale at P&C is nice. Sure, there are a million blends I wish were included, but the R.O. Series are a fantastic bunch, which one doesn't see discussed often.

I went with the 25% off at tobaccopipes.com ... With their high prices, after the discount is figured, the final price is just a little lower than Smoking Pipes normal price. So that makes them about even with each other on BF prices.

I thought that Peretti might do something based on last year, but reading the old thread led me to realize that they didn't discount their own tobacco, which is what I wanted to get.
