I can understand the want for a "Birth Year" pipe as it makes for a nice conversation piece as well as a nice addition to the pipe collection. I guess my collecting of pipes hasn't gotten to that point yet as I have no plans to search for birth year pipe. Though I may very well have a birth year meerschaum as I have multiple older meerschaums, and one of them could very well be from 1977, but I have no way of knowing.

Good luck on your search.

You just have to keep watching. Eventually one will turn up that meets your criteria. It just may take a few years.

I wasn’t really looking for a birth year Dunhill but a nice one showed up for a fair price while I was in the mode of acquiring old GBDs. Your pipe is out there, you just haven’t met it yet. Is having a birth year Dunhill (or other maker) super special? Nope, but it’s a nice pipe in its own right. A commissioned pipe would be nicer but it wouldn’t be as ancient as I am.

Best of luck in your journey. You know how it goes. Because you are looking, it will now take a while. I started a long time ago and actually had a '71 Dunhill, then found one I liked better.

I started to stress when my son was fixin' to turn 18. My gift to him was to be a 7 day set and as soon as I started looking for 2005 pipes, they were nowhere to be found... until I went through my collection and found both a 2005 Dunhill and a Sav pipe of the year from 2005. I then recalled I had stashed them away some years ago.

Anyway, this thing of ours is a marathon more than a sprint. You will get there, all in good time.

This suddenly made me think of a 'Back To The Future' movie with the plot revolving around getting an artisanal pipe maker to make your perfect pipe in the year you were born...

BBB also made Christmas pipes with the year on them. I have Dunhills or BBB Christmas pipes from my birth year, my wife’s birth year, high school graduation, university graduation and for my two kids birth years. They just pile up over time. Good luck on your search.

Opportunity knocked, and I answered. Rich at Briarville had this 1966 Dunhill 6120 4S listed, and now my first Dunny is coming my way. (Birth year, of course!) Feel like I've "Leveled Up." 😁

I have not been -seeking- one, but eyes open and all that. When spotted this from a trusted and reasonable estate seller, it was a no-brainer.

I came close to finding a birth year Dunhill only a year ago when my local B&M had a few estates for sale, all popular brands, and all ridiculously cheap. I snatched almost all of them, but two in particular were fantastic- one was a four-panel Becker that cost me $40 and the other was a Dunhill Shell for $48. None of the pipes look as if they had ever been smoked more than five times if that! The Dunhill Shell is from 1979, but I was born in 1978. So close!

That’s the second Dunhill that I’ve ever found for ridiculously cheap - my first, and my first ever Dunhill, is a Patent Shell from about 1942 or 43; I forget exactly which year now. I found it at an antique store in Havre De Grace, Maryland for $18. I sent it out for professional restoration and it’s one of the jewels in my collection. I keep hoping that I’ll come across a 1978 for dirt-cheap and it may happen one day; Lord knows I never believed that I’d find a World War II Dunhill Patent Shell for not even twenty American smackers!

Now if I can just come across an Ivarsson, a Nordh, a S. Bang, and a Chonowitsch for dirt-cheap at a flea market or antique store I’ll be able to die a happy man.

I was born in 1967. Looking for a fair deal for the pipe, but overall price is not of concern.
Did you ever come across one?
Same year here and I’d love to get one, but it’s not a priority financially or psychologically but I am keeping an eye out. I’ll try to remember to give you a heads up if I see one.

Btw-Peterson didn’t date mark in 67 from what I got in my looking.

And yeah, @Buzz Saw has a nice shovel Electra Glide there!!

Where? EBay, SP and other online merchants?
There is a lovely 73 on SP right now if my SS is watching LOL, I got mine from eBay by literally googling 1973 Dunhill. J
To check if it would work I just now typed 1973 in the SP main search bar and it showed up , so that works too. Ser Jacopo started making Dominas a while back (pipe of the year) and of course a bunch of other brands make them too but I feel like that is more recent than my birth year 50 years ago but I could very well be very wrong.

Happy Hunting

Since I was looking for a Dunhill birth year pipe, what (eventually) worked for me was the following Google search:

Dunhill pipe +19??

(Where ?? equaled the birth year.)

Most links turned up by this search will be someone's restoration projects or pipes no longer for sale, such as outdated eBay listings. But keep at it. I eventually found a Dunhill "Friendly" Shell Briar in my birth year at an e-tailer.

Sorry it took so long to respond, been on call lots this week.

I did find a 1967 Dunhill on Ebay by Mr Dunhill in acceptable condition. Gloss is gone, minor char, and stem is no longer very tight, but smokes great. $220.

Thanks dude!

I'll just pretend I was born in 52..

Lousy idea; you saved a few hundred bucks but cut 28 years off your life.

I guess I was a little lucky. Very early into pipesmoking I stumbled on a birthyear Peterson. After confirming the stamping (1978) I went ahead with it. $75 all in. It's not my favorite pipe but I do enjoy it, particularly in December, my birth month.
