ok ok people need to relax here, we are all friends or we wouldnt be here.
Now while the ebay rules state no returns the seller should have said it in the posting as well so its binding, "if you buy this item there is no refund or returns." or something like if you dont like the item you pay for the shipping and a 20% restock fee will be applied to the return. thus you keep some money for your hassle and get the item back or you keep all the money and the buyer keeps the item. If ebay gets involved they would have to inspect the listing and item to see if there was a known issue on the sellers side or misuse on the buyers side.
All and all i make many wooden objects for people and while lighting does factor in, i can clearly see ware spots on the stem and some parts of the sides. i wouldnt have bought the item or would have asked for a more detailed picture. if that wasnt an option i wouldnt have given the pipe another look. I work with multiple forms of stain and sealers and have to say some not all but some shellac doesnt hold up to heat or will impart a slight color change due to how many layers are on the object. But this is all past its point and everyone should just understand that people need to vent. the seller should have stayed professional about the issue. it could have been handled much better.

Novicemaker, it does not matter if a seller does not allow returns. Ebays policys supercede a sellers return policy.
"Purchases are covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee when all of the following are true:

An item isn't received or it isn't as described in the listing

A case is opened no later than 30 days after actual (or latest estimated) delivery date, or for tickets, 7 days after the event."
In regards to pics they are too easy to maipulate......would you buy the pipe below

This is the same pipe, cleaned and buffed, the scratches were minimised but are still there I just did not show them, only the pretty parts lol.

And then there is this one, sellers description "excellent condition"

Nice looking stain, stem looks decent enough. I dont know if the guy used a unscented pledge to take the pics so it looked nice. OR if he played with the light and made the darker. In person the stain was worn in many places and the stem was pretty oxidised. Worse though @ the 4 and 5 position the bowl was very chared. Went in a good 2-3mm and was a deal breaker for me.
Re the pics of the pipe you have to look at the ebay listing to see what I was looking at. The ones here are the ones I took and they show areas that the originals do not and at greater detail.

just the time you have spent on here griping about this pipe is way more time then most guys would spend over a $40 pipe from ebay. do people who buy $40 pipes on ebay really expect they are getting a cherry? sand it down and spray paint it blaze orange. or maybe an OD green and they sand the high spots and give it a camo look. pictures of other pipes and what if's have no relation to current buy.
you ignored his low rating and crappy pictures and jumped anyway.. you got a refund and one poster even offered to buy it so exactly what more are you expecting.

You bought a crappy pipe. It looks crappy from the ebay listing pics to. No wonder some sellers on ebay just give up when they have to put up with cry babies.
This here picture from the listing look a lot like your own pics.

dochudson, if this is such a lame thread why are you replying? I blew out my back so I have plenty of time to do whatever I want. Which maybe is not such a good thing, but this is more fun than cross word puzzles. And yes for $40 I expect a "cherry". Its a little less than 1/2 of a new one. He was @ 100%, the low rating is from my feedback. The pipe is on its way back to the seller so nothing to sell to anyone else. OR you could spray paint it orange AND camo, could be the hunter edition pipe an exclusive to Cabellas!!!! :)
frakenstein, if you are going to put up pics how bout putting up the others as well. 3 out of 4 look good AND AGAIN the pipe was decribed as being "extremely well cared for".....and..."absolutely stunning".

Dochudson, you are right, my wife pointed out to me that I do have better uses of my time!!!! :(
frankenstein, you are also right I am completely responsible for my actions. I should have seen that one pic and ignored the rest of the listing, the 100% feedback being irrelavent.

rx2man, are you ok? Did your wife get hold of your account? Or did you finally get some good pain meds? BTDT, I was out of work for 3 months with lower back whacked, pain so intense I couldn't breath. If you think that I'm an ornery SOB now, you should have seen me then!

Three "good" pictures do not negate the fact that on one picture it show it's true self. And who ever pays any attention to the sales pitch?
Sorry for being a little rough on you. We've all made bad buys on ebay.

Neurontin works great for nerve pain in the back.
Is ok frankenstein, nothing like when your wife figures out you were buying pipes again.

in all honesty you get what you pay for, most of the time it is below what the item is valued at. But in the case of something fix able then the value is yours to decide. Would i have gone for the dirty natural looking pipe you showed, for the right price yeah light scratching sand-able, dirty cleanable, bowl looks in decent enough shape salt it and clean out the stem and done. would i pay 100 for it no, 40 maybe. all i have to say is that if anyone tried what you did to me, id make you pay the return shipping and give you 20$ back for the hassle.
