Hello and welcome from West Virginia. I agree with your feelings. This is not the world that I grew up in, or the values and morals that I was taught. We people on the Forum may be nuts, but we are harmless and fairly likable.
funny fact people have always felt that way about their times and the past. The thing is the past only seems simple compared to now for two reasons...
1. all the questions and doubts got resolved
2. cause we don't have to deal with it.
People are going to say the same thing about now in the future.

Please put your location in your Profile, as people are forgetful.
Why:
That will save questions in the future as to where you live when you later mention local stores, weather, tobacco prices, availability, regulations, location of photos, wildfires, air quality, etc. In many instances that saves time for those who read your posts. It cuts down on posts or PMs asking where you are.
How:
Under your avatar, (top right, left most of three symbols) you choose "Account Details", which brings up "My Account". "My Location" is halfway down. Whatever you're comfortable with- town, city, county, state. province, etc.

You'd find yourself disappointed if you expected an unrealistic degree of uniformity within the pipe smoking community, on the sorts of things you have in mind; but, yes, it's probably fair to say that grasping for some token of connection to better times is a not-uncommon motivator in some who reach for a pipe, so the community winds up having a higher proportion of those who share your sentiments than many other communities might.
