I have many Missouri Meerschaum cobs that make their way into rotation from time to time, depending on the tobacco I have prepared. My oldest, a General fitted with a Forever Stem I purchased from Dave Wolff, is still a favorite I frequently enjoy Lat blends in.
I also have one of Riccardo Santia's bamboo shanked custom cobs, that is probably the driest smoking cob I own, although it is a little longer than I prefer a pipe to be.
Another custom cob I managed to acquire from Marilyn at Missouri Meerschaum, was one of Chris Morgan's CobWasp's. I love the look of the pipe, but since it is 1 of 100, I probably won't smoke it unless I can acquire another.
However, I am most fond of my Doug Erwin custom nosewarmer, which is based on the MM Washington. I've always been partial to shorter pipes, and Doug's nosewarmer cobs, are a perfect example of form following function.

My favorites are the MM Diplomat (Apple and 5th Ave) and the Mark Twain.
Second runner-ups are the Country Gentlemen for larger pipes and the Morgans for nose-warmers.
Most interesting award goes to this 100 year old MacArthur with Reed stem:

My 3 Country Gentleman's; all with forever nose warmer stems that I shaved down and opened at the button. One is dedicated to Carter Hall, one to Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend, and the other is used for any/all blends.

Did anyone answer Sparrow? If not , many MM cobs are filled and coated with plaster of paris.

They ended up making over 200. Smoke it, they're great!

They were just talking about the smooth finish pipes. Cobs don't get plaster in the bowl, just one the outside.

One more vote for the Country Gentleman model - the bowl is just about the perfect size, IMHO. The Mark Twain is a close second, followed very closely by the smaller Missouri Pride/Huck Finn models that I go lunting with at lunchtime.

My Country Gent is probably my most used pipe in my rotation. I recently purchased a few more to keep on hand. I'm thinking of picking up a forever stem for one, but one of the reasons I like them is for them being so inexpensive and at the same time great smokers.

Derfargin, don't forget that the Vulcanite Freehand bit should fit in any filter stem Cob, and you can buy it at the same time as ordering more Cobs.

Now why would one apply plaster to a cob?
Purely aesthetics ... many come "Naked" without any plaster.
Here's a short video that shows the process and some history:

I like 'em all but these two were my favorites. I had them outside taking a sun bath and a storm formed and they were soaked. They never smoked the same. Nothing since has rivaled their smoking abilities.

I now have 2 forever stems, because I wanted one bent and one straight. I have the straight one on a Diplomat, and I'd have to say it's my favorite...smokes really well.
