English blends are a whole 'nother critter from aros. A lot of the guys will, I am sure, suggest the Frog Morton series - they are crossover English blends, meaning they have a light aro topping. I personally don't care for them.
I would suggest, instead,Altadis Burma Road. I bought an ounce this summer, and liked it enough to go for 4 more. It's pretty reasonable priced, and is a decent crossover English. You might also try The Solent Mixture from MacBaren. That's got Syrian latakia in it, instead of the Cyprian.
Or, you can just forget the crossovers and go for a regular English blend. My favorite is Peterson's Old Dublin.
Enjoy your explorations.

My first pipe tobacco was a English, SG Squadron leader. It was good but it came a little too wet out of the tin, so it was a poor choice for a complete noobie like I was. I'm also enjoying Peter Stokkebye Proper English.

I would recommend Chelsea Morning. From Pease.....Chelsea Morning: A traditional style blend of bright and red virginias, orientals, a whisper of Cyprus Latakia, and just a hint of perique. From the Old London Series.

To get a taste for what Englishes are like, you may want to try something that's simply a light English without the topping/crossover. The best one I can recommend is Ashton's Consumate Gentleman. It's not too strong in the latakia department but it is, IMHO, a true English blend.

As you can see everyone is going to give you a different anwser, there's no such thing as a beginner blend and no such thing as "best" any kind of blend. My suggestion would be go to your local B&M and see if you can't sample some English blends. If you can't then buy a sampler from one of our sponsor sites, my personal favorite would be hearth and Holmes sampler from pipeandcihars.com but all the sites have really good deals you can't go wrong, good luck!

Avenger I am sure you will love the frogs but if you never have had a blend with Latika in it your indie a surprise! The woodsy taste is the Latika, if you don't like it look for a blend without that next time. If you do like it try Hearth and Holmes Larry's blend, it is my favorite blend :)

Berry nice is a fantastic Aro but it is still just an Aro, it will never have as much taste as a VaPer or English. As for Latikia I have heard it described as peppery or steak or campfire taste. For me all I taste is campfire, so it is definately different, and one of those love or hate sort of things. Be sure to let us know what you think of it when you get it so we can point out some other blends for you to try.

In its purest form it tastes the way campfire smells so you should be in for a treat. Frog Morton will be a little sweeter and have a slight aromatic touch compared to a typical English blend but it will give you an idea of what to expect from latakia...

The first full English I tried was Boswell's Northwoods and it got me lured into the wonderful world of English blends.

Mr B's cambridge mixture (brigham). It's a light English with nice smooth flavour. I just started trying English blendsand tried EMP, a bit too much latakia for me to start.

My first English was Peter Stokkebyes English Orient Supreme and it seemed to give me a really good impression of what English tobacco was all about. Im pretty sure that you will love the frog but dont stop there try as much "English" blends that you can so that you can compare.
