To better elaborate on my C&D comment, visit smokingpipes.com under the tinned tobacco page and C&D has 165 options when it comes to 2oz tins. Under bulk, another 101.
Capstan comes in blue and yellow. If there were fifty shades of Capstan, there’s a good chance most of them would suck.
I think there’s a benefit to what STG does in “bean counting” because it fixes the SKU problem. They nix the shit blends and good blends and keep only the great ones.
As said yesterday (though my speech to text didn’t come out how I thought it did) every brewery can make one great beer, but rather than focusing on what they do well, they tend to try to make dozens of varieties.
I used to think lowly of C&D because I tried about a dozen blends without being impressed by any of them. But Sun Bear and Mad Fiddler and From Beyond are legitimately great, and I almost never tried them due to the SKU problem.
With Mac Baren I experienced the opposite problem. I tried an HH Virginia and thought… wow, with how good this is I’m glad to see they’ve got several dozen more blends to try. Instead, I found lots and lots of mediocrity with a couple notable exceptions.
What I like about this game is… based on what’s nominated and the passion people employ and defending blends they hold dear, I like to try new things and this process sniffs out the goodies in each brand.
