I find it amusing how C&D went from a very subpar blending house to manna of the gods as people slowly accept the fact it's going to be all they have left. It
Let's keep this between us, but my thoughts are this: Cornell & Diehl, in my opinion, struggles from a number of SKU's. I get that in the modern era, with STG acquiring every f@cking blend on the planet, that dropping SKU's is a sin... but still, it's a problem.
I was early into the craft beer movement. I remember when IPA's were new and hip and the next up-and-coming thing. Next thing you know, your mother and your next door neighbor can make an IPA that blows for f@cking mind. And all of a sudden, the magic is gone.
In my humble opinion, the shrinking of Mac Baren and Sutliff is a representative of a picture that's true across the board: most blends suck. It's true for C&D just as it's true for any other blending house. You can't produce a few things... No, you've got to produce a shit load of stuff and here it is... blah, blah, blah...
But the truth is... the greatness lies in just a few blends. That's as true for C&D as it is for anyone else, and several of those blends have been named here. So will I be confused if a C&D blend wins? No, I won't. Because a majority of their shit isn't on the catalog.
But am I insulted that Mad Fiddler didn't make the list? Maybe a little.
