I am not an aromatic smoker but once in a while I have to as when my mom visits she likes the Blood Red Moon. She also like the Sutliff Molto Dolce. My kids also like those blends so when I am feeling charitable, I will smoke one of those as well.
If I were a big aromatic smoker, those 2 would be at the top of my list as they are really pretty good blends.

CBRM will scorch a beginners tongue as fast as any comparable blend. G, H, & C blends are a good bet. Ken Byron has a few cherry blends that might fit the bill. Also, his Sakura is an easy smoke with a cherry "tone".
If you are saying that CBRM is Cult Blood Red Moon, I will respectfully disagree as it being a tobacco that burns my tongue or my mouth. I have never gotten even a nip of bite from it. If anyone ever asks me for a aromatic blend recommendation I always go with the two above as they have never bitten me no matter how hard I go at it. I never dry it out before smoking it. For my tastes I get no burn, only big flavors.

I wish that were my experience with the Cult. Maybe it is a pH issue or maybe I have a bad tin. Dunno, but it scorched my mouth. I have not tried it since I jarred it. I have learned to slow smoke Aros and maybe the 3rd time will be the charm.

It could be a PG issue as well. I cannot smoke any blends with even a small amount of red Virginia's. They burn my tongue off as soon as the smoke hits my tongue. PH definitely has ways of messing with our enjoyment of certain blends. I couldn't smoke any of the Boswell aromatics as they dried my mouth to sand. We are all different.

One thing I would suggest is changing pipes. Try one that has a nice wide open shank 4.0-4.5 mm. Maybe a pipe that has a wide bowl. Maybe a pipe with thick walls. Maybe a pipe that is longer like 6-6.5 inches long. Maybe you need to dedicate the pipe. If you have any troubles with other pipes, go the opposite way. There are so many things that could be the culprit. One thing I do before I kick something to the curb is try anything I can think of. Do you drink coffee or tea, those go well. I might not drink anything with carbonation. Get a bottle of Biotene mouth wash and gargle real good before lighting up or in the middle or the end of a smoke. I think you get where I am going with this. It only took me a year to figure out how to best smoke SG Full Virginia Flake. I didn't give up and now it is in my cellar to the tune of a dozen pounds or more. I think I missed try drying it more, or drying it less. With all these possibilities it is a wonder any of us get to enjoy a pipe. lol

Have never tried the Biotene and we just happened to have bought some this past weekend. And will try a larger bowl and a few different pipes. Aros are hit or miss with me and the Cult Cherry is one I love everything about but for how it treated my mouth. Thanks for the advice. May help with others I have sidelined.

I'd get the LT going with a couple of natural cobs and maybe use the 'filters.' They helped me slow my cadence when I felt the bowl heating etc... some heat and moisture can be caught in the 'filter' (we know it's not really a filter) as well. That way only the blend and maybe sweet cob flavors come through and the LT won't ghost a nice pipe in the learning process either.

Another rec for Cult Blood Red Moon.

but seriously, it’s probably the pipe - and you’ll never fix the problem with tobacco. People react react differently to various woods. I’ve been smoking pipes for a long time and get along fine with briars, cobs, and meers. When I tried a pear wood pipe, however, I experienced the same symptoms as the lieutenant.

Get him a decent cob and a tin of CBRM. You’ll be doing him a big favor.

Again, I would never recommend a cob to anyone I like! I'd give him one of my pipes first!
