I have a couple Peterson's with military mounts. A 606 Blackrock, an x105 Golfer and a 106 sandblasted Kildare. I like them for their ease of use and cleaning. Definitely plan on adding more. I rarely separate the stems on my pipes so this type of mount makes it easy to clean the shank out.

I have three, a GBD (9245), a Peterson (999) and a Savinelli (624). They all have a bit which is equal in length to the stummel which seems to be a characteristic of the true Military/Army Mount. I love a military mount. They break down and store in your pocket very easily. For anyone that spends any significant amount of time outdoors it's a great design. One of the unseen benefits of this design is that should a bit require being replaced there is no need to exactly fit the tenon, any slightly tapered bit can be made to work. No doubt a blessing to a soldier in the field.

I love 'em and want to add more to my collection. I just hate silver. I'm lazy and I just want to smoke the baccy not add an additional step of polishing silverwork to my pipe cleaning routine.

This piece was created for me by Eric Paulson.

My Savinelli Capris Ebony = Sav's answer to sea rock

Both are sweet smokers. The Sav is huge. These may not be the last of military mounts I acquire.

I have a few army mounts, a couple of Petes and a Chacom and a couple of Brebbias, and I like them for hunting. Allows you to disassemble of easy storage. I'd like to find a chubby Meer with a army mount one day.

I have a couple and like the profile. I can't say that I use them in the intended way, mine are rarely broken down.

I really like this type of mount and have quite a few pipes with it, I never really take advantage of being able to disassemble while hot - but then again I'm not smoking in a trench and needing to react quickly to a change of situation :)

I guess you could say I'm a fan:
dsc_0022.jpg

Top left, Loewe Spigot. Descending order on the left hand side, 1/4 bent Civic Canterbury, Punto Oro, Chacom and two LM Brevet's.
Right hand side you have a Peterson silver spigot along with a bunch of Punto Oro's (and a Peterson Sportsman as the foundation for the 'fan').
To me, the classic army mount lifts almost any shape into magic. I'm not a fan of the chubbier, modern takes on the army mount though.

Very nice! Makes me drool, thinking about adding back a spigot or two. (Only ones I had disappeared long ago, one a Peterson bent, the other a Barling.)
