When I was a young boy having been raised in the country I thought city life would be for me. It didn't take much maturing to see that I'm a country boy through and through. My wife and I are currently looking for more land in the area we currently live in.

Beaches, walks in the mountains, biking along a river, I love the country, but I can also have a good time in most cities… except really large cities. If it is a hassle to park my car or I have to use public transit… keep me away from it. I can handle LA better than New York or Chicago. But, I’d prefer Asheville, Birmingham, Charleston, or Memphis.

I’m less country verses city than I am hot verses cold. If it’s cold there, then no, I’m not going. I am more at home in 110F than I am anywhere I have to wear a big coat.

I preferred medium cities until recently, when I chose a smaller town to slow the pace down some.

I think age has had an effect. What was fun in my 20's is annoying in my 50's.

What I enjoy now, I made fun of in my 20's..... hahau

I have had the experience of living in Barcelona capital. I prefer to live in the countryside. I would like at least, in my retirement, hopefully sooner, to end up in the country house in Galicia, owned by my wife. I need to be connected to nature, the silence of a small town. We have very close small villages of Portugal, where you can have a coffee, and even do the shopping at the supermarket, or the traditional market. God willing.View attachment 242938View attachment 242939View attachment 242940
Hey John, I thought your wife was blonde? Didn't I see you with a blonde in prior pictures? Never mind, best you don't answer that...

I much prefer country. Mostly grew up in the hood in Memphis. Lived outside of Portland OR in the mid 80’s. Mt Hood was framed in the kitchen window. This was before it went stupid. But had some good times.
Arkansas City, Kansas in late 80‘s. Went there to build racing engines, the proprietors were awful people. Since I was not related to anyone, had to work at the hog slaughter house to make enough to eat and eventually move back to Memphis. Still here but live out in unincorporated county. Only 2 neighbors that I can see or barely hear. Lots of trees and wildlife.
Love it!

Both have their plusses and minuses. A large city offers seemingly endless varieties of cultural influences and cultural crosscurrents. For people who enjoy the vibe and energy nothing can compete. There is a wide range of activities, whether it's clubbing, concerts, and a galaxy of other events. In the San Gabriel Valley there's a wider range of Asian food than you're going to find in NYC, SF or any of the other major American cities.
There's also a behavioral edginess that's become more pervasive in the last couple of decades. If you like a faster pace and a lot of variety and possibilities the city is the place to be.
Country offers space and a slower pace, bit also less exposure to a wider world. I'm enjoying an environment where people stop for a pedestrian crossing the street rather than speeding up to cross the intersection before said pedestrian can step off the curb. My local ACE hardware retains the service and variety of the hardware stores I remember from decades ago when if you only needed a couple of nails you could buy them, rather than being forced to buy a large box of them. The staff is immensely helpful. Reminds me of Los Angeles before it failed into an international success.

Suburbanite for sure

I love the countryside for a short break. But I’d miss all the things a city offfers.
Truth be told, I’d probably suffer from anxiety attacks in the country because of the isolation

Definitely would not like to live in the midst of the bustle, traffic and noise of a busy city
