Definitely a sipper...similar to tobacco, slow sipping reveals nuances and subtleties of the whisky. My shots days are over - life’s to short to drink bad whisky!

I'm not much of a drinker but when I do, I'm a sipper. Aside from wanting to get drink quickly, I find no reason to gulp. Unless it is cheap rotgut sand then, why drink it at all?

Definitely a sipper, but I only buy Bourbon/Scotch/Rye that is worth sipping.

I've gulped down a few shots in my day, but that was only back in the day when the purpose of the visit was the effect of the drug. In fact, I think it's been at least 10 years since I gulped down a shot at the bar, and that was on a Halloween of partying in Duluth, MN, and the shot was used to prime the pump, so to speak.

I do both depending on situation and quality of spirit. I'll never shoot something like Oban 18 but if given enough encouragement, I'll shoot a bit of Jameson (and regret it for a while).
A middling rye can do for a shot but a low end bourbon will make me yark.
I much prefer to sip a nice example of a whiskey than shoot it though.
The older I get though, the less my body will tolerate the abuse.

I sip scotch. I tend to shoot bourbons, as I don't care for many bourbons.
It all depends on the quality of the drink in front of me and the plans I have for the evening.

Its important to remember that for TV and movies they usually sub in iced tea for scotch, so that may account for something.

Mike, I never thought for one moment they drank the real stuff on screen, it's just the manner in which it is drunk that I was questioning.

Vodkas, Aquavits , Snapps ,and Tequilas I usually would take in one-two shot whereas as far as wiskeys and Bourbons go I prefer sipping (in slightly diluted form)
I sip usually. I like a glass of scotch here and there.

I'm definitely a sipper, as I need to make it last. My favorites are Maker's Mark and now TX, with a touch of ice or just a drop or two of water if it's colder outside.
shots are a very American thing. They started during prohibition which is also when the heavy cocktails started to be a thing. And it's all because what was available was complete garbage that no one wanted to taste. And both of those atrocities still haunt us to this day.
With Lagavulin, I want the sense memory of lovely scenes of windswept shores and gorse covered hills and the the redolence of peat fires. Conscious sipping.
