I must say, I do enjoy Haunted Bookshop. I find it an interesting smoke, especially if I make the very next smoke, * State Burley. Cycling back and forth between the two enhances the other tobaccos and brings them more to the forefront for me.

This has been bothering me. I know it is just a choice of words, but I can’t help reading the title of this thread and thinking about you burley guys breeding. Just stop it.

I wouldn't say you were negative, but you are often the first one ready to slow down hype. Some may see that as negative, I'd say it comes across as grounded. Respectable, but fun to poke at

Nice! I love them. They clench so easily and it’s unique to be clenching comfortably and still have the stummel nearly upright. The Danish Pipe Shop is cranking out some new ones these days at a reasonable price. And if you end up REALLY loving the shape, Nate King has recently made some extraordinary interpretations of the classic shape reformed stack-ish checkmarks.

I've tried really hard, but can't come up with a good guess as to what your question or statement here is.
Not really. I bet most things are like that. What beers, what whiskeys, what whatevers lead the sales? Are any of them something people who rant and rave about consumption would rant and rave about? Thinking that a forum like this represents pipe smokers is an inaccurate thought. People talk about how back in the day pipe smokers had a blend or two and had one pipe they burnt through. When there have always been both the nutters like us and the boring people who smoke.
OK, I just tried C&D #2 Burley flake and 8 states. I now know what a Burley is. My palate is not sofisticated enough to say "earthy tones with mild citrus and nutty ... " I'm just not there. I taste dirt. Thats what it tastes like. Having said that, I like Laguvulan Scotch and it taste like dirt. Tin smell ... they are both GREAT. Especially the C&D #2. I can smell the bready yeast. All tin smells are wonderful to me. After tasting these, the english blends I have taste even better. Having said that, time, taste and drying changes everything. I will hit these up every once in a while as my skills and preferences will change. At this time I'm not a burley man.

I like burley as a component. Too much and I get a really tannic acid type dry mouth feel, like a really dry red wine. I don't enjoy that part.
The old boys who mentored me during my early days as a piper were adamant that I start off with a simple rough cut Burley until being competent with the basics a packing, keeping the thing lit, etc... before experimenting with different tobaccos
I have no idea why, but I did and now when I have a decent Burley blend, it takes me back to those halcyon days however I must confess I've become a fan of Orientals.

I never smoke straight Burley blends. I tried Solani ABF and Wessex Burley slices and disliked both. I do smoke a number of blends that have Burley/Kentucky in them.
