When I was young, I use to race flat track with a Matchless. My friend had a Velasett - would love to have them now.

Well, I am pretty sure its the throttle mechanism in my carbs that is causing the stick, I unhooked the return spring and did it my hand, stiff with gunk. Looks like i'll be teaching myself with my manual, yet another new thing. Taking apart the carbs, haha.

If that doesn't work I'll probably bring it to a shop here in town, but I really enjoy doing mechanical work and learning with it, I find it kind of exciting.

I don't mess with mechanical work on my bike. Way too much can happen on the road and a lot to look out for. We are the "unseen" riders, for the most part. I want my bike to be working to perfection at all times. Just one less thing to be watching for. It always go to a reputable bike shop for fine tuning and repairs.

I'm quite the opposite, I guess its my character. Bikes really aren't rocket science, especially old guys like mine. To be honest, if I always took my bike in for every fix or maintenance touch up I might not even ride, half the fun for me is to be taking it apart and learning it and fixing it myself, I find a lot of enjoyment in it, there is something about getting it running again and hitting the road after you've fixed something or put something back together. I'm considering buying another GS750, it was in a flood and its all seized, but I'm throwing around the idea of a complete rebuild.

Hey, another GS owner ! I have a 1981 GS850L, I suggest going to thegsresources.com. That website has more info and helpful advice on your bike than any manual.
Edit: Added link, L.
