So how do I convince the wife that a bike is reasonable
Wish I had a good answer for you. My wife is actually the one who talked me into getting our Shadow. Not that it really took much convincing

It just looks clean.....there's probably an inch of dust/dirt on it. Whenever it's nice enough out to wash it, it's just as nice to ride it...guess which one I choose.

Tell her how much more fuel efficient they are.
Orrr.... you could tell her...

That my War Department says of all the things she can no longer do... riding the bike is the one she misses the most... "especially second gear, at low speeds". 8O :D
Pony Rides: Last Easter

Not quite big enough to ride. :crying:

I'd rather see someone out riding their bike with a lil road dirt than in the garage getting more polishing hours.

Lawrence, would a sidecar set up with her comfort in mind be a possible option? Just a thought, I'm sure you guys have already toiled over the situation. So sorry to hear of the injuries to your wife. :(

A motorcycle was my basic transportation for over 20 years. Watch out, loseth, the first 3 years are the most dangerous. If you don't get killed then, you will probably live through the experience. I quit when the all knowing government refused to relicense me as a driver unless I waited 6 hours on line to renew. I thought the constitution prohibited cruel and unusual punishment, but provisions like that are only for rich people who can afford the kind of lawyer who would take it to the supreme court. Some suggestions: assume everyone else on the road is out to kill you, many of them are; if your butt hurts, put a sheepskin on it; if you want to smoke on the bike get a windshield. And one tip you probably won't need. Don't do like I did. One day a screw on the bottom of a carburetor fell out resulting in a gas leak. Not having the right part, I plugged it with a toothpick. Some miles later I noticed the Norton was on fire and the fire was between my legs. I got off before it exploded.

We discussed a sidecar. But, even a ride in any car hurts from the slightest bump.

Her back fusion went bad, she even has a pain pump (with dilaudid, " It is thought to be 6–8 times stronger than morphine... but with a lower risk of dependency"), it provides her very little (if any) relief.

Thanks

Having kicked dilaudid (after a motorcycled-induced shattered leg), I can tell you that it is not an easy kick. I spent seven days living the movie Trainspotting.
Don't let your wife do it cold (when the time comes).

Thanks for good wishes and advice guys.

The War Department has an internal pain pump with diladid in it.

She occasionally has to take one orally but it's not every day.

She has some other health issues as well, that makes treatment of the pain somewhat problematic.
No, it wasn't a Semi. It was someone in one of those large Ford pickup dually. Hit and run.

He was doing 50+ in a 30 when he rear-ended her, while she was waiting for passing traffic to turn into our driveway. Our little Hyundai didn't stand a chance.
Sorry for hijacking the thread... didn't mean to.

Hey everybody,

You may have noticed that I have edited the string.

I just thought it prudent to put the thread back on two wheels. :D

I didn't mean to hijack the thread.

I apologize.
Thanks guys....
Now back to the show!

Let's see those bikes guys and gals.

We riders love those bike porn pix as much as those pipe porn pix....

I need help!

It all started with my throttle. Its always been sticky and finally I decided enough was enough and that I needed to clean it up. I took my throttle apart and the throttle cables apart on both sides and I bough cable lube and a cable lube clamp and lubed them out so that grease was coming out the other end, as its supposed it. I cleaned and wiped off the inside of the throttle hand and took some q-tips and got a lot of the gunk out and shot a bit of cable grease on the handle too. I hooked everything up and its almost worse!
I then realized the problem is either my throttle cables themselves (which I don't really think so, when I hooked the throttle cables back up at the handle end the cables seemed to flow in and out of the casing just fine.
Now, where my issue is, is what the heck the spring is called that pulls the 'throttle lever thing' down in the engine itself, or right in the engine area. This is the spring that pulls the throttle cable back after you've revved the throttle. Am I making any sense?
The spring is about an inch long, plus the loops on either side of the spring to connect onto the appropriate places. I can't find any of them online or in stores, probably because I don't know the name of it.
I realize a lot of bikes probably don't have this, this is my 78' gs750. I'm getting frustrated now though, I can't get this throttle issue unsticky.

Loseth, wish I knew something about your bike....

Heck, I wish I knew something about my bike... :D
I take mine to "Dirty Mike's Bikes" and have "Oil Can" work on mine.

Look for a motorcycle mechanic with a moderately dirty shop and chat it up with them....

Learn their pedigree... You know the important stuff... Like where they got their training, what they ride and how many years they have been working on bikes, if they have the right tattoos, grease under their nails, and the appropriate beard and bandana.
Seriously... Find a good (off Main Street) mechanic that won't charge you out the Wa-zoo to tell you what the problem really is, and take it from there. On mine a 10,000 mile maintenance at the Harley Shop is $405 (first in first out, Saturday's only  min. 6 hours and that's if you get there before 7, two hours before they open), at Dirty Mike's $225 about 2-1/2 hours (show up when you get there :D ).
Dirty Mike loves test riding my bike after the tune-ups and such.... He'll be gone for half an hour, instead of the usual 3 minutes around the block.

"I love ridin' Ur's. It's stock-n-smoooooth... Have a beer. How much ya want?". :D
