Anyone recognize the Makers Mark

This belonged to my father in law, my mother in law gave it to me after he passed. Love this thing but am curious as to the maker. Is anyone out there familiar with this marking?

Wow, that piece has been around! I'd guess it's a home made piece. Is that a cherry wood? More photos would be helpful I'm sure others here would know much more though.

It is actually made of birch. It's a great smoking pipe.

Its a stylized "L". Birchwood was used during WWII in Denmark and France as briar was hard to come by with mediterranean blockades. Start researching there. La Rocca in Italy uses a similar style L in their stamp today.

Its the european version of a corncob. The wood is softer so it won't last as long as briar.
