I really love this shape, and as a college student with an extreme budget, the price too. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this particular pipe, and could let me know if I'd be wasting my time.

I don't have one like that, but do own some Savinelli pipes. I highly recommend them, as they are great smokers, for a reasonable price.

Do I need to use the filter in it? I don't use one in any of my other pipes, so if I don't have too I wouldn't bother.

We don't know a Savinelli florence in Savinelli catalog here in Italy .The line logo on the stem also suggest a second line for the american market.Anyway you'll never waste your time or to lose money with a Savinelli

In my experience you can never go wrong with a Sav.
As to your question about the filter, no you don't have to use it and many people don't. I do use the balsa insert (it isn't exactly a filter) in my Savs simply becausee they work.
Go for it.

I have one Savinelli and it's becoming my favorite pipe.

Mine uses the same filters. The filters are not necessary but I like them.

Savinelli 6mm filters.

Savinelli filter adaptor.
Either way, my guess is that you will have a good pipe.

I think the adapter just restricts the draw the same amount that the filter would have. It's just a small piece of tubing.

I don't know why they sell them in packs of four. They don't wear out. You use one over and over again.

My Savinelli Bing's Favorite came witha filter stem. I put in the adapter, and it smokes nicely. I have never had a bad Savinelli.

The adapter will give the interior a consistent diameter. Without the adapter the draft chamber will go from narrow, to wide, to narrow again. Some smokers think that an inconsistent diameter causes turbulence with the draw, which can lead to gurgling and an overall "odd" draw. Some won't think it makes a difference one way or another.
Personally I'd use the adapter.

Try emailing SmokingPipes from the bottom of the web page you showed us. It's possible that the pipe comes equipped with either a filter or an adapter.
edit- By the way, when I use the filters, I change them after every smoke.

My Sav which is a piece of crap came with the adapter and like 20 balsa would filters. I would recommend using the adapter if you don't use the filters. That's a nice looking pipe for 50 bucks I had that thought when I got mine. Sav came so highly recommended but it was a total piece of dung.

I've 4 Savs that are designed for filters, came w/ the adapters. I used the the filter adapters for quite awhile with all of them. I've stopped using the adapters several months ago and seen no difference in performance.
Neat looking pipe for the money, grab it up!
