Anyone Else Have A Bag Problem?

But seriously! These are my 'rotation bags' so I don't continuously have to open bulk jars. I pull out say a half of an ounce to an ounce of a blend, and this is what I smoke off of during the week.

There has to be a better way.

If you don't have this problem, what are you doing to keep your tobacco short term fresh and organized while smoking?

This is just bulk, I just dip out of smaller tubs.

I attached a link for a binder I use to organize artificial worms for fishing. If you want to stick to bags something like this could help keep you organized. Also, I am sure you could find one cheaper than the link included or even go the DIY route.

Let me be contrarian and say, the bags aren't the problem. A temporary holding method for small quantities of blends is not at all a bad idea. But a heap of re-closeable bags is not appealing. I'd figure out a narrow box, basket, or other container, and fit labels at the top edge that are small, readable, and convenient. This narrow little file will serve both purposes of keeping small quantities handy and having them accessible and convenient, and eliminate shuffling through the pile. Maybe I'll even take my own advice, who knows?

I just use the jars small,two ounces.............stainless steel lid............

Use 1/4 and 1/2 point Mason jars. I bought the ones with the red tint that's supposed to filter out the harmful sun rays. These will keep your tobacco fresh anywhere from two weeks to twenty years.

That's pretty cool. A way to organize the bags. I'm definitely not opposed to jars, but obviously they take up more space. The bags stay in a desk drawer. Thank for the idea, that's a possible option for sure. Do you use this yourself?

Sunlight was another consideration for me. My bulk Ball jars are in a pantry closet. My pipes and rotation tobacco is in a desk drawer. The drawer is for convenience of location of where I smoke and away from sunlight. The drawer wouldn't hold more than a few jars, even the smaller ones. I do have some space on shelves where I could use jars, but the sunlight could be an issue. So those tinted jars sounds like a strong possibility. Thanks!

I do not. I limit myself to a small rotation of opened blends. I usually have 2-3 blends going at a time, so having a bunch of opened jars (or bags) is not a problem I run into.

Bags are shit, glass jars work well as do some larger jars with silicone seals. I have seen the red gaskets on glass jars disintegrate after a dozen years or so. Silicone seals never fail.

You just pointed out all of my issues with the bags. I am not concerned about the short term time in plastic, it gets smoked. The bags save space, opposed to jars. I'm not opposed to jars, however they would be exposed to sunlight in the room where I keep my rotation. You hit the nail on the head of rummaging through bags to make a choice. Good ideas!

Rolling the bag around the contents slows moisture loss considerably, as does packing them tight together.

For what looks to be very small quantities of numerous blends, decent bags are a fine way to go.

Jars for opening full tins or bulk, for sure. So for two ounces or more, jars. Less than an ounce, bags. In between— a real conundrum!
