There certainly is, just not during a pandemic when congregating on the beach has got to be asking for trouble.

With these quarantines coming up I told friends, my prediction is a baby boom in nine months, a triple increase in domestic violence, and a shortage of AA meeting places once it is all said and done...

The sad part, is in my normal day to day existence I notice very little change....

Other than..."can ya spare a square?"

Where I live everything good is cancelled, but we still all have to carry on. Work is still on, stores still open, and cash is still being exchanged. Gas pumps are still being used, and bank machines. Everything is compromised, and still being used.

This kind of a half hearted lockdown is only killing our morale and economy. Maybe a total lockdown would flatten the curve.. that envolves shutting down the entire country for months. That would mean months without most modern comforts.. I just dont see it.

Looks like this way we'll crash our ecomony and still all catch the virus at once.
Lockdown is probably gonna happen here because some people are just ignoring the advice. They think we might be only a week or two behind Italy and if you've watched any news reports coming out of there that's a scary thought.
They've closed most of the shops now but if people still feel the need to go out for no discernible reason and the disease keeps spreading like it is at the moment then I don't see what choice the government have.

Take it as an opportunity to binge watch Netflix and dig in to your cellar?.

Just watched The Ben Shapiro Show on YouTube (link below).

Ben's on the right of the political spectrum but don't let that put you off if you're (like me) a lefty.
He discusses the idea of a lockdown and how it's a necessary thing until they can see that the US isn't heading towards an Italian style nightmare. But as he rightly points out at some point you've got to consider the economy.
He also said that in northern Italy (where COVID-19 is particularly bad) people over 60 are being denied access to a ventilator if they need one, that's a scary thought.

Anyway it's a good watch and much more measured and thoughtful than 90% of the MSM I've seen (on both sides of the Atlantic), especially with their penchant for annoying talking head 'experts'.

Yup. You have to go outside to smoke. I normally smoke in my car only. But if they kick you out of the streets and force you indoors, where're you gonna smoke?

Boy that really does suck! I'm guessing if you break the rule you can lose your tenancy or whatever?
If you like Ennerdale you could always smoke that and if any nosey neighbours come knocking just say it's your 90 year old grandma who has come to isolate herself and she likes to go a bit mad with her granny perfume.

All joking aside that really is unfortunate. The best you can do is keep going to your car as once inside you're safe. You've just got to be careful what you touch on the way too and from and use hand sanitiser (if you've got some).

For some of those who don't, or at least haven't, contracted the virus, the down time has proven a lesson in slowing down and taking time. This doesn't help much for the majority who are losing income, but for many, it is a big change, in a constructive way. This different way of handling time will change the culture, a little or a lot, as will the medical crisis. My wife was able to schedule a medical appointment as a telephone session, reducing the risk of at least one medical visit.

Informed my brother had symptoms last week and has since recovered; Flu test was administered as doctor recommended and Flu Neg; Symptoms were slight fever, pain in limbs and chest/lungs, extreme fatigue and inability to walk as a result of pain. Supposes it was Corona but glad to be over it and in good form - between you and me also reported diarrhea at tail end of it.
I didn't get diarrhea but my digestive system was messed up and I couldn't eat more then a fraction of my normal diet for two weeks. Normally with the flu I eat the same amount as usual based on my activity levels. Nothing conclusive but one more tic on the that wasn't a normal flu.

Youre right for sure, my friend. But those days of sowing wild oats are near and dear to the heart and history of the Funkhouse.

I sure hate it for all the kids who's milestones are being disrupted. Those years are a golden time in the life of a man. They just just wont get graduation and spring break back. I feel for my son who's first year of real baseball is cancelled (age 6), and my step-son's college graduation (age 22). I know its all for the best.. would It kill us to have a few little league games? or watch some college basketball?

Better than have them attend multiple funerals for older family members. It is clear people still don't comprehend the potential consequences and realize they can hit close to home. Of course the actions being taken are going to badly damage the economy. But the economy will recover. You can't make more money if you're dead. 3% of the population dying would damage more than the economy. Hospitals across the nation turning people away with all illnesses would be a bit devastating. People need to get theirs heads out of their asses, understand how serious the consequences could be and voluntarily do everything possible to prevent the spread of this virus.

Well, due to the state of emergency over Wuhan, city hall is pressuring the provincial gov't to stop evictions under the Tenancy Act, which would mean rule-breakers can't be kicked out. If the containment measures get even barmier and people are literally forced indoors I expect many smokers will start lighting up in their suites, rules be damned (and if they've read the news, I reckon some might already be doing so). I still wouldn't want to, because I care for the Landlady, but I reckon others would, and in such situation I can't or won't blame them.

Yes I had a booking for Friday and Monday (2 different doctors) that have both been changed to telephone appointments. It doesn't bother me as neither are things they have to examine me for and I'm just glad I can still get some help?.

I didn't realise you were in China, for some dumb reason I thought you were in the US. Probably because so many forum members are American I suppose.

I hope you find some sort of solution, surely as these are extraordinary times they'd consider relaxing the rules a little?
Whatever you do stay safe buddy.

You can't stay alive if you don't make money, either.

In the UK they are going to give people statutory sick pay up to 80% of their salary but I think there's some confusion as to what help the self-employed will get.
If governments want people to stay home then they've got to help them out financially.
