Mmm nice looking pepper. I am a hot sauce/pepper addict. Cut up part of a habanero very small and put it in my salad. Always looking for the hottest sauce but with a nice taste also. Dave's Insanity has been one of the hottest.

I have had some homemade meads. Some have been very good and some way too strong and dry.

The mead I see most common in Liquor stores is Chaucers. It is very sweet and syrupy. Too much for me.
Seems like many areas have smaller independent mead makers but not many stores carry them. Harder to find.

Thats funny :laughat: "weapons grade peppers" i grow all kinds of hot peppers too. Me and my macho friends sit down in my garden and see who can eat the most peppers with out drinking anything. We all wind up drooling and tearing up like a bunch of babies who got shot in the face with pepper spray. its funny to watch but after all the fun, the next day you want to wet the toilet paper in ice water to help put out the fire. the chocolate habanaro meade sounds interesting. I brew some with fresh mint in it and it is pretty good. It gives it a minty chilling effervescent kink of effect. good to drink when your starting to get a head cold. By far my favorite meade is a black current raspberry rhubarb blend. i got the black current recipe from a brew buddy of mine and then i added raspberries and ruhbarb for some tartness. Its a strong mead and full flavored. The currents come right out and kick you in the face ( Like WoW I am a BIG Mean Tasty Juicy Current) and then the sweetness of the raspberries comes threw and the rhubarb hits you in the end and blends well with the med dry finish. i try and do three or four 5 gallon batches a year so i have it on hand but its hard to keep around cause everybody loves it and it disappears from my celler when ever family comes around.

My problem is I've only been making mead since January.

It keeps getting appropriated by my relatives too. :D
Lawrence is crazy with his peppers. He's got Ghost Chilis and a bunch of other weapons-grade peppers in his garden!

 Yup, and they are coloring up nicely.

I made mead years ago and it was awesome. I still have a few large bottles aging. I have never tried commercially produced mead so I have no reference point, but I do enjoy my mead.

I looked at some of the recipes. There is no way I am making 5 gallons of anything in my galley.
I guess I'll have to do some begging around the marina this winter.

Philip, use 1 gallon Apple juice bottles. Use about 2 or 3 lb of honey depending on how sweet you want it a little of the lemon/tea mix I mentioned and 1 pack of yeast.

I love a good Mead! I made a 10 gallon batch of a very dry ginger mead many years ago , it was quite tasty. I guess I need to make some more one day.

Thanks for the suggestion, baron. I'll have to do a little research and see what equipment I'll need and if it will all fit on the boat. Nothing can come on the boat unless something is removed to make room for it.

If the boat isn't feasible, I'll try to enlist the support of some of my shore dwelling friends.
This looks like a good winter project. Where is the best place to buy the equipment I'll need?

Just had my first mead today, was a cheap $9 bottle of cherry flavored mead, was pretty dam good compared to other girly wines I've had, gotta be my favorite actually. It seems to have a greater depth of flavor.

I've always assumed mead was just another type of beer, like ale. Now that I know what it is, I think I'm going to pick up a bottle.

It's very good stuff. The War Department can't stand the taste of wine, but she likes mead.

I enjoy a good brew too, but mead doesn't necessarily have to be sweet.

It can be down right dry.

And, can be just about any flavor.
