I bought my first MM for 65 cents along with a 25 foil package of Half and Half in Nellie’s pool hall in early 1972, when I was 13 or 14 years old.

That 65 cent pipe is $5 today and the Half and Half is $3.50 in the same building, now an South Indian owned booze and smoke shop.

How cheap do want to buy the best cob pipe for, anyway?

None are free.:)

Truth be told, I think the OP thought he was getting a MM cob as it was hanging on an MM display.
He could ask for a refund because that's false advertising

On the other hand, he could get one of his kids to paint it, then list on EBay for $300 as a "genuinely rare, mint-y, one-off hand-finished item".

You are correct. The pipe was hanging on a MM display about 10 feet behind a counter. It wasn't worth me driving 20 minutes to return it.

I had a cheap no name cob from china, was the first pipe I ever bought when I started. It smoked fine until I poked through the bottom cleaning it out one day. Oh well.

So here is half way through bowl number 6. Definitely not MM quality, but it works.

I went to a local shop and seen this hanging behind the counter on a missouri meerschaum display. With about a dozen other cobs and some genuine ozark hardwood pipes. As i was checking out I told the lady behind the counter to to let me get one of the cobs. I thought because they were hanging on a missouri meerschaum display that they would be legit, boy was I wrong. I'm not even upset about it. I figured since I already have it that I will torture test it and post results until It falls apart.
Have any of you ever had one of these, if so how does it smoke?

Looking at these pictures, I might actually like how this cob is joined with the shank vs MM.

I have 2 of them. I don’t smoke daily but use them for something I am afraid will ghost a pipe. They are good enough to trial a tobacco.

My father in law had one of these. about 1/3rd of the bowl was below the shank. The way MM does it sure does taste bad at the end of the first few smokes, but you don't have 6oz of dottle for every pound of tobacco you smoke. I filled his with pipe mud, it took a lot and added noticeable weight. Otherwise it smoked ok. IMO there's no reason to buy a cob that's any cheaper than an MM, but if you already got it, mud it and smoke it until it doesn't.

Great idea, but: Isn't that more ETSY than eBay? :).

Today I picked up a Country Gentleman and Wow what a difference. The China cob smokes fine, but the MM feels so much more substantial in my hand
