Antique French Briar

I have a soft spot for antique pipes and buy good ones when I see them. I got this one in Yesterday. It's an old generic French Briar cased pocket pipe. My theory is that these were configured to easily fit in a jacket pocket. Turned out to be unsmoked. It was dusty and a little faded, just needed a refresh. It has a sterling shank cap and amber stem. The case logo looks like late 19th century to me. I thought you all might like to see it.

I think an occasional smoke is okay. It has nice balance for clenching.

This was the sort of pipe that appeared in American general store and pharmacy supply catalogs in the late 19th century. Great find!

Sorry, I just saw your question. It is 5” front to back, 1.75” tall with a .75” bore. So it’s medium size. I have a couple pipes in the same kind of case with smaller chambers.

That is perfection right there. Amazing!

I really love it. I prefer the classics done well. Understated and classy. That's a pipe that could make a hobo give off airs of gentlemanly essence.
