This weekend while antiquing with my wife (it was a fantastic day and we had burgers at our favorite diner beforehand), I came across this old can of Granger. Of course I wanted to buy it since it’s a piece of tobacco history, but I was a bit on the fence because of the $20 price tag. I showed my wife and told her as much, but she said, “Well haven’t you been looking for something to dump your ash and pipe cleaners in?” I knew there was a reason I keep her around! Haha.

So I ended up buying it, and it works perfectly for dumping all of the gunk after I clean out a pipe. I love seeing it displayed on the top of my tobacco cabinet, too. It’s a cool reminder of a small bit of the history of this hobby. I think later down the road when I have more shelving space, I’ll aim to collect old tobacciana like this. For the time being, however, I couldn’t be more pleased with this acquisition and I already think it was well worth the price paid.

What kind of old tobacco history pieces do you have? I’d love to see other’s collections!

That’s a great use for the can and I love the look of the thing. I’ve almost bought an old Sir Walter can before because it’s my favorite codger blend and they used to use those similar metal cans. It sounds like you had a great day with your lady 👍

Great find and congratulations on such an understanding wife! I have a bunch of old tobacco related stuff from my dad. Pipes from the 40s and 50s, old leather tobacco pouches, pipe racks and yes, old cans. They are perfect for storage. Behind the pipes on the left of my pipe nook is a Granger can just like yours.

How cool! The Union Leader can is awesome. I like all the Zippos and the flask, too. Your dad knew what was up.

Very nice. Nostalgic. Looks great. A good find and I think well worth the $20. Over the years it will give you more the $20 worth of enjoyment.

Tobacco history? Pipes? Can’t think of anything else I might have…. Here’s a few I’ve collected over the years, basket pipes, I have more too. Don’t smoke many anymore but occasionally. First four are four Brighams, first 2 from my grandad around WW2. I sanded to the grain, and put a rim on the first. 5th is a Pete, and 6th not sure.IMG_0004.jpeg

Nice little collection! I like the look of all of them, especially that one you sanded. That furthest one looks like a comfortable shape.
