"American" style English blend recommendations such as Walnut Match, Barking Dog Match, Country Doctor Match...... I'm really into these and would love to hear what kind of recommendation y'all have.

When I think of "American" style Englishes, I think of burley added to latakia, with all other leaves optional. A couple I like are Pirate Kake and Spilman Mixture. Pirate Kake defines latakia bomb and I like latakia. Spilman Mixture is unique and superb. There's some topping in it that is ineffable and mysterious and when the mood strikes, delicious.

My two recommendations:

- Cornell & Diehl's Epiphany, which is modeled after the old classic Revelation blend. It contains Perique and Burley, which to my mind qualifies it as a thoroughly American English
- G.L. Pease's Samarra is more of a straight English, with Perique and no Burley. But it is designed and blended by Americans in America. And it is fantastic. And on sale at smokingpipes.com

I enjoyed Cornell & Diehl Old Joe Krantz Red Label and Seattle Pipe Club Hood Canal. OJK Red is fairly stout, but not as stout as the regular OJK.

I'd like to try some of the Match blends for the classics as I haven't done much experimenting with this type of blend.

Not to succumb to nostalgia for the unattainable, but the Nat Sherman 536 blend, English with burley, was about the most refined of that genre I've had. When Nat Sherman in Manhattan went out of business last year, Metropolitan took over their two aromatic blends, but for some reason did not continue with 536, which is a shame. I have one remaining tin I plan to enjoy to the nth. Another good blend of that kind is Home and Hearth Midtown series Chestnut, a match to discontinued Walnut. You can now sample it sold in a baggie to decide if you'd want a tub.

Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding Special Reserve. I was less than half way through my first 3.5 oz tin, when I purchased 10 more. The only reason I haven’t increased that number is that it’s coming out in flake form soon, so I’ll buy some of that and see if I prefer the flake over the cake.

Seattle Pipe Club Mississippi River Special Reserve is also very good, or, if you really want it Americanized, get SPC’s Potlatch.
