I have a fairly large pipe tobacco cellar with perhaps 40-50 tobaccos. I enjoy most of them, including an occasional aromatic, but my favorite tobacco by far is Orlich Golden Slice. I smoked it by the boatloads.
Do any of you have a tobacco recommendation that has some similar qualities to OGS? As part of this hobby I really enjoy trying different tobacco so any recommendation would be appreciated.

I really cant put ogs in the vaper category. While it technically contains perique I thonk they mostly just drove a truck by the factory to impart a little odor. Its not far from being a straight Virginia.

That said try Ranier long golden flake. I think its a better version. On top of that its pretty too.

Golden Slice has a bit of Burley or maybe it used to. The Perique is little, as a condiment but what stands out is the orange/citrus casing.
I'm not sure what would be similar or close to it because of the casing.

Give Ashton Gold Rush a try, I thought the leaf to be top notch. I have a tin aging to let the honey and lemon topping subdue, the Virginia doesn't really need it that much.
^^^ THIS ^^^

Though may the OP be forewarned that Gold Rush is a ribbon cut, so if part of the experience is fold & stuff, you're out of luck in that sense. Therefore, something like PSLNF might be right up your alley.

Gold Rush is damn close, though. And plenty tasty too!

Golden Sliced is a favorite of mine too. The closest thing to it I've ever had is Iwan Ries Virginia Flake... which (supposedly/maybe?) was at one time made by Orlik, so who knows, it might actually be the same stuff. Or not. Either way it's good. And remarkably similar to OGS.

Peter Stokkebye Lux Navy Flake is very close.
I also recently fell in love with GLP Union square, is in that realm but more complex and little more magic
If you like to add a touch more burley to the flake then MB Navy Flake, a spectacular tobacco

It’s not clear what your motive or endgame is with finding a product sumilar to Orlik Golden Showers, but Surliff 507c (made in the same factory as OGS), would be worth your time and money to investigate. It’s 20% off right now at TobaccoPipes, the STG/Mac Baren-owned e-tailer.

I thought 507c is made by Mac Baren. OGS by STG.

Just keeps getting funnier every time I hear it!

It's a fair question though. If the goal is something almost exactly the same, I stand behind my Iwan Ries VA flake recommendation.

But if the goal is finding "stuff that's similar, but different, you know, to explore and maybe broaden the old horizons" that's a different and much longer list.

Who makes the Iwan Ries product? I’d be surprised if it wasn’t something off the shelf.
