By the way, the key flavoring ingredient is extract of bergamot, a small orange-like citrus fruit grown in the Indian subcontinent. It's what you smell when you open a packet of Earl Gray tea. It's very noticable in both the Orlik and Reiner. I sense it in the Capstan Gold, but less so.

This is as close to Golden Sliced as you’ll probably ever get. Especially if the Golden Sliced you have, has a slight floral smell, taste.

Based on tin note, you can barely tell them apart, and Sir John‘s Flake also has a similar floral flavor.

Sir John’s Flake is seriously top notch! 👍

@hoosierpipeguy is the only one I’ve ever seen smoking this blend besides myself. Maybe he’ll share his thoughts on it.

I have not had OGS, but I can whole heartedly recommend Newminster No. 400 Superior Navy Flake. Fantastic straight Virginia flake with a bit of honey topping (which fades away early on). Perhaps that might be up your alley.

I’ve only smoked a sample of OGS, and was reading this to see what other tobaks I may not have to bother with, as OGS I had really didn’t do anything for me.
The I ran into all the 507-C recommendations, which I find odd, as I really like that (and have from the first smoke I had of it).

I guess it just goes to show how subjective this all is, and/or how much slight contimentals or casings can change blends so differently for different folks.

Who makes the Iwan Ries product? I’d be surprised if it wasn’t something off the shelf.
Me too.

TR says "Notes: Blended for IRC By Orlik/ Peter Stokkebye per the gentlemen at the Iwan Ries store."

So, there is a chance it might actually be rebranded OGS. Some people on there claim it's Luxury Navy Flake. I can tell a distinct difference between IRCVA and LNF though.

I've asked a few times at the store and haven't ever really gotten a confident answer.

“Orlik” and “Peter Stokkebye” are just brand names owned by STG. Those products are all manufactured in the same factory, on the same equipment as all the other STG products. So the Iwan Ries stuff may be the same as one of STG’s other flakes, but it may be slightly different, if they place a big enough order. Has anyone compared the Ries flakes to 507C? I’ve never tried the Ries flakes.

Though may the OP be forewarned that Gold Rush is a ribbon cut, so if part of the experience is fold & stuff, you're out of luck in that sense. Therefore, something like PSLNF might be right up your alley.

Gold Rush is damn close, though. And plenty tasty too!
Gold Rush is awesome. And it's an interesting example of an aromatic. In fact I think it's doing exactly what the heck made the Brits pass those laws about flavoring tobacco.

there are a few blends that are famous and similar to things I love that just don't do much at all for me. Capstan is the king of that for me. On paper sounds like I should go mad for it, but it just actually bored me.

It’s not clear what your motive or endgame is with finding a product sumilar to Orlik Golden Showers, but Surliff 507c (made in the same factory as OGS), would be worth your time and money to investigate. It’s 20% off right now at TobaccoPipes, the STG/Mac Baren-owned e-tailer.
Completely off topic...... but one of the things on this forum I enjoy is the twisted sense of humor that some members have. I can respect that.... :col:

When I see a post from @woodsroad I always read it closely for some demented reference. And.... with "Orlik Golden Showers" he did not disappoint..........................

Credit goes to @condorlover1 for that one!
