Even from early childhood things I disliked never improved. For example, Mac Baren's Navy Flake is a tobacco that I just couldn't finish a single pipe of decades ago. I still find it to be one of the nastiest tobaccos I've ever smoked.
Oddly, I just opened a tin of that last week and made great photos for the "opening a tin" thread. I like the way it smells. I was eager to try it.
My issue is not so much that it is repulsive to me, it's difficult for me to find pleasantness in it. No gratification. I keep searching for the goodness and it just never arrives.
I think that possibly for me, the Cavendish mellows things out too much for my personal palate. I think it's "too smooth".
About 5 bowls in and I find no reason to keep trying. I may be posting a tin of free tobacco soon.
I recall enjoying Peterson Deluxe Navy Rolls.

Pretty much anything that was not a goopy or I guess even nongoopy Aromatic (not including G&H and SG Aro / Lakeland) once I learned how to smoke cool and slow my cadence I enjoyed the actual flavor of most everything that just tasted like hot air or ash before I knew how to smoke properly.

I liked all the sweet goopy aromatics until I didn't. I liked viginias until I didn't. I tried a bunch of blends then I found Lane 1-Q and Sutliff 507-C. 507-C is a regular for me. Lane 1-Q is an occasional treat as is Autumn Evening. I can handle a bowl or two and then I'm good for a while. I'm trying Sutliff Sweet Virginia now but not enamored. Tastes change fortunately. Variety is the spice of life they say !
Out of the sutliff Virginia's which one was sweeter in your opinion?

I had a hard time in the beginning with VaPers. I pretty much stuck to Balkans and English for years. VaPers just tasted like raisins to me and I really disliked it. Now I love quite a few of them, particularly Bayou Morning, Dorchester, and Stokkebye Bullseye.

I learned a while ago to cellar wider, not deeper. One of the joys for me each day is to decide on a blend and to make sure I have a bit on hand. Generally I prefer a pressed flake or krumble kake Virginia with both Latakia and Perique, and always have some of Watch City’s Ahab’s Comfort on hand, and lately, G&P’s Horizons. But I also like a Country Squire aro now and then or even some 1-Q.

It’s kind of like food- I like fried chicken and potatoes, but occasionally need a little pasta or a cheeseburger. Or sometimes just a bowl of vegetable soup. Variety is indeed the spice of life.

I've got 3 virginias that I don't care for and thought about giving them away.. OGS, Amphora Virginia blend and Lane MV-1000 which is kind of an aromatic virginia, but I guess I'll hold onto them. A few months ago, I wanted latakia and the the more the better.. now I've drifted back to a couple of the Country Squire aros and stuff like 1Q and RLP-6 (capt black white). I'm just all over the place.
