Excellent, I have more to smoke and read. I no longer regret my drunken post. [done while drinking Guiness and smoking Old Dublin tin btw]

If you truly want a nice smoking pipe that looks sort of dwarfish or hobbity, you might consider the Vauen Auenland pipes. They are not the cheapest but are from a (IMO) good company. Here's a link from one of our sponsors.
Those are the only (remotely) Tolkien related churchwardens I would go for.
I have two regular Vauen Churchwardens, and a Savinelli (well, two of the same model).

The Savinelli models have a much beefier stem, so you can actually clench it sometimes. I would not recommend doing that with the Vauens, but nearly all the Vauen Churchwardens use an army mount for the stem so you don't have to worry about them going loose over time.

Just looking at the smoking experience I like Vauen more, but sometimes Savinelli is more practical.

@edvard, Good that you hang through the lambasting you got, and I'd like to throw in my two cents on churchwardens. I got a maple handcarved from a friend for ren. faires and such, and its an alright smoke..I've seen some on ebay for $20-35, similar pieces...may be worth it to try one if its for a "one bowl a day' kind of smoking/showing off. For a good year round churchwarden, I'll second the HCA and the Vauens, and also name Lorenzo. I have a Lorenzo Lectura, and it is honestly a fantastic smoker and reasonable for heat distribution. I've dedicated it to only one tobacco now, but I'm in the process of a custom commission warden and finding another Lorenzo warden, simply because I'm so fond of it. I haven't really heard much else about Lorenzos though. Should be able to score one for a reasonable price.

edvard,
I have a Mr. Brog No. 13 dezerter churchwarden which is made from Pear wood. It's actually not a bad smoking pipe and is a very affordable pipe if you want to try out a churchwarden. Mr. Brog is also a site sponsor.

@edvard - welcome to the ride!
I would have thought a smoke from a pipe cured in any vagina would taste like kipper.
I sense another StarCat thread in the making....

Here is a pic of my Peterson Churchwarden. It is nice quality and smokes great. It cost about $100 a few years ago.

That peterson is beautiful!! I would get one with a dual stem that was if you don't like churchwardens, you can go with a shorter stem. Vauen or Hans Christain Anderson. Happy puffing

I haven't yet. Mostly I've been drooling over the different churchwardens. My son isn't due back from college just yet so I have some time. I made the mistake of showing him pics some of the all wood hand man pipes and he wants one. I am currently trying to talk him out of it. He grew up with the Hobbit cartoon like I did and first wanted a long German style like it depicts in the cartoons. However, he's seen the movies now and wants these all wood types. I may get him one for the novelty. BTW Billp that Peterson is beautiful. I'm looking at the Hanseatic Churches for myself. I know the allwood "replicas" probably wont last but I will buy some Middle earth blends from JFH and dedicate them to it. I doubt he'll use it must anyway, he has better pipes, but it will be fun. I'll post pics of what I get. I'll get an ounce each of the M.E. blends and see if the pipe breaks while breaking in. :puffy:

Not throw a wrinkle in the plans but I can highly recommend the Nording freehand wardens. The look like they're out of a fantasy film for sure, but the smoking quality is top shelf.

I actually would never have purchased a warden for myself but my pipe club all pitched in and got it for me for my Bday. I love it...

You should check out jM Boswell's web site

He makes great churchwardens. Actually, any pipe he makes is good. But I like his churchwardens because the bowl is nice size.

The pipe looks proportionate.

A lot of these pipes have a very small bowl which doesn't hold much tobacco and looks silly sitting at the end of a long stem. IMO.

As most here know I am all over the Churchwarden pipes. I own now 16. My favorite is this Mark Tinsky he made me as per my wants. He will ask you to give him what you are looking for and show you some pics, then tweak it from there. I think I paid 260 for it and it smokes better than most pipes I have. Not only that it converts to a standard rhodesian. Contact him, as the money you will spend and the "holy crap where did you get that" is well worth the coin.

That Mark Tinsky pipe is beautiful. You'll all have a good laugh when you see the rustic thinks my boy wanted. I'm not at home yet, working on location, but he's already received them in Tucson. Compared to what you guys have posted they look like a joke. But he's happy. I know he'll just go back to his Goliath brair after this but it'll be fun. One is 12" and the other is 18". I'll post as soon as I get home or he sends pics. Whichever comes first.
