I am in Calgary, myself and a buddy would be interested in a get together. Any progress on the FB page?

Cheers,

Jason

There was a group that got together and smoked a few bowls recently in Calgary, thread link is below. Not sure if it was just an informal get together, but they talked about the first meeting of the Alberta Pipe Club. I am not sure if they are looking at a formal club or keeping it to informal get togethers.
I am looking at something more formal for a pipe club, but waiting to see what develops with them.

We had a very informal meeting. Right now the issue is with meeting places as it is too cold to smoke outside, and difficult to find a place indoors that is smoke friendly. The three of us who met earlier this month are very interested in developing some kind of official club, but again, determining a meeting location is hard, at least during winter months.
One thought I did have was seeing if Grey Eagle Casino would have a smoking lounge. I am pretty sure they allowing smoking in the casion as it is governed by the reservation and not the government. However, I have not dug any deeper than that.
Anyone else have any ideas?

That is a great idea, worth a shot. I have a feeling aside from someone's house / man cave it would be hard to find a business that would be interested.
I could try talking to a couple of the cigar / tobacco places in town and see if they would be interested. Something makes me think there was one in town that had hosted a couple of cigar nights not so long ago, sponsored by one of the cigar co's. Might be work checking out?

I'm a Sask man through and through but I do make it out to Alberta a few times a year. I'll be in Calgary second week of January. Come spring and summer you'll find me on the patio at my cabin. Lots of chairs, beer is always cold, and pipers always welcome!

Hey Hunter185,
What pub would that be. I have some friends up your way and will be in the area come spring and summer.

Blueeyedogre, where abouts is your cabin? Sounds like a terrible place, haha.
Seems crazy that in a city of over a million there isnt an even somewhat public place to meet indoors for a gathering.

Hi masterpython, it's west of Innisfail, right on the highway. Lots of bikers in the summer, food is good too!

You'll either find me at Regina Beach or up north at a lake called Baldy Lake 2 hrs north of Melfort. I go there fishing at least 4 times a year. No cell service, no outside world contact, no yuppies, and all the rum and piping you can ask for!

Sounds nice blueyedogre!
Hunter185, I like the sounds of that. I have a bike and a pipe, that sounds like it would make for a great afternoon!

Great, I'll organise something in the spring. My ranch is 5miles further west for another venue.

Hunter185....the problem with your local pub is that it is illegal....no place of business in Alberta can offer even an outdoor patio that permits smoking.
Northernneil....I have spoken with the Grey Eagle Casino, and they will not permit anything other than cigarettes to be smoked there. The Nakota casino on the Stoney reserve 45 minutes west of town has a small area that they have permitted cigars in from time to time.
Currently, the only place in or around Calgary that has legal indoor smoking space is Epicure's private smoking lounge, which requires a $1600/year membership to use.
Our only current option is utilising private homes (patios, garages, decks, etc) for any sort of meetings.
There is a good and strong cigar group in Calgary, whose members include a couple chaps that are also pipe smokers, but no Calgary pipe club, so I am looking to start a dedicated pipe club here. I would like to collect contact info for anyone local that would be interested in helping create this, and hope to have 10-15 founding members before winter. Please message me with your contact info, and I will start putting things together for an organisational meeting so that we can make this happen.

It's not a problem. This is the red neck capitol LOL! They have an outdoor patio and people do smoke out there. Regardless, my farm is 2 minutes away, BYOB is cheaper and pipes definitely allowed. I posted another thread on a get together at my place for a BBQ as well, sometime this summer.
