Ah, I didn’t realize you were related to the musicians on the Titanic. When I was a child, on occasion somebody would go to the local hardware store and buy several sticks of dynamite, pack it in a family member's luggage, or sometimes their own, buy airline insurance from a machine at the airport (remember those?) and then somewhere in the sky the plane would blow up.
A change in the laws in 1968 required a special license to buy dynamite. I can remember the old men complaining about it.
But after that nobody ever used hardware store bought dynamite to down an airliner.
As a consequence of about twenty five million military style rifles with extended magazines and even more high capacity automatic pistols in private ownership in the USA occasionally somebody uses one to murder a lot of people.
They didn't years ago, because those types of weapons weren't for sale at the local gun shop. Then one had to join the armed services, to gain access to them.
And as for pornography, I understand archeologists have found it on the caves of the ancients.
Aboriginal erotic rock art proves that – even 28,000 years ago – men had ONE thing on their minds
Cave paintings dating back an estimated 28,000 years found in Australia and featuring pornographic scenes show that men have had one thing on their mind for a very long time.www.dailymail.co.uk
People do not and will not ever, change.
The only hope for civilization, is public education and traditional, old time Christianity, which are pretty well close to the same thing.
The proper response is civil disobedience on a macro scale. An armed response may be necessary - I don’t know that this can be ruled out. Hatred, revenge, and retribution if central to the tenants of the succeeding government will lead to more violence. True democracy - as direct as it can be - has the best chance of succeeding - maybe. What are your thoughts? And the proper solution is?…
I agree with your assessment, but I think King George III was onto something deeper when he said this of George Washington: “If he does that (lay down his command and return to civilian life), he will be the greatest man in the world.’ This kind of humility is what’s needed in a true leader; especially the leader of a revolution against tyranny. Napoleon had the same opportunity as Washington, but didn’t take the same path, and it didn’t end as well for him or his country. As for Sri Lanka, we’ll see. At least for the moment, they’ve broken a very powerful bond that was over them. The proper response is civil disobedience on a macro scale. It seems to me that when humans aspire to be something more, something deeper and more beautiful, when we express faith, hope, and love for our fellow humans - it is then that the ideals of freedom become real And societies become worth valuing.I agree with your assessment, but I think King George III was onto something deeper when he said this of George Washington: “If he does that (lay down his command and return to civilian life), he will be the greatest man in the world.’ This kind of humility is what’s needed in a true leader; especially the leader of a revolution against tyranny. George Washington and the American experiment (Republic) is the best example of how to defeat tyranny and bring about long lasting peace, but who today will cede power once it’s gained? It will take exactly this kind of leadership - the leadership Washington exemplified - to once again set the standard, but who today will do this, I’m not sure.
There is a Kingdom coming whose King feels the same way, it’s just not here yet.It seems to me that when humans aspire to be something more, something deeper and more beautiful, when we express faith, hope, and love for our fellow humans - it is then that the ideals of freedom become real And societies become worth valuing.
