My pipe smoking hobby started last year in September and I bought a tin of Erinmore Flake, Erinmore Mixture and a pouch of Captain Black Regular back then. Since then I have purchased several tins and was blessed enough to receive lots of huge samples from you guys. Tonight I finished my first pouch of tobacco (Captain Black Regular) which was 1.5 oz. After 5 months of smoking I managed to finish a pouch at last. I don't smoke everyday, but mostly on weekends. I am really happy that I started this beautiful hobby and glad that I met people like you here. This is one of the best communities I have ever seen in my life. And it is really unbelievable that a 1.5 oz pouch took that long to finish. Damn, are we going to manage to finish all those tins we have purchased before we die :) Cheers fellow pipers.

I too am a moderate pipe smoker, so if I didn't buy, or receive as samples or gifts, any tobacco for several years, I am well supplied.

It is my goal to have all the pipe tobacco I will need for retirement in 3 more years.
I may well exceed that goal.

My frustration is at this point, I've got so many tins opened (and their contents jarred), that not only does it take me forever to finish one blend, I've got at least a dozen varieties in my "cellar" that I've never tried, and I'm just dying to open more tins.

It's a tough hobby for a moderate smoker. I've "sampled" over 100 blends now, but mostly one or two bowls each, and that took over a year. At the current pace it'll take about a decade to finish off the "samples" that I bough in my first year.
At least TAD isn't an issue, barring the odd tin of new stuff that wasn't on the market before.

Happy to hear that.

I try not to open many tins, maybe 4-5 tins at a time. But still same thing here as you said, dying to open more tins.

Wow, I am just wondering how long it is going to take for me.
I plan on being cremated and taking mine with me  ...
I don't mind if I am going to die and not going to exist. It is a problem if I am going to die and see that I cannot smoke all those unopened tins :)

I'm extremely moderate in how much I smoke as well, probably about 1-2 bowls a week. I have about 8 different blends opened, and have yet to get through even one during my first year. Nor can I get myself to open/try and more tins until I finish at least one ;) If a tobacco ban hit today, I'd probably be set for life with how many tins I currently have in my cellar!

Same with me. And I have about 4 bottled, different tobacco's as well as another 6 unopened tins, all different.

One of the small pleasures of having too many tins opened and blends jarred is the several minutes it takes to roam around the rack and decide which you'd like to smoke, after doing the same routine choosing a pipe. Usually, something feels just right.

I really, really envy you guys. I wish I could get through a day on say, one or two tins...er...bowls.

I can relate to this as well. I have come across so many good deals lately on tobacco, both here and other online tobacco vendors that it has made my first 2oz of tobacco last since I started smoking (which has been a month or two). And I certainly agree that this is one of the best communities that I have ever been a member of!
Cheers,

Jared

I find that I'm smoking a LOT less in the winter. I have little ones at home so that's a no go there. I try to sneak a bowl while at work. I got overtime coming up this Friday night so I'll be blasting away for most of the night.
