And, the combustion products of butane burning with plenty of oxygen (in the air, there is plenty) are carbon dioxide and water vapor. If you live where there is not much oxygen, you may also get some carbon (soot). So, no worries... The stuff from the burning tobacco has plenty of other things to think about. LOL

Anytime you wish to learn about a specific chemical compound, its characteristics, its associated hazards/dangers, and other miscellaneous information, simply Google that compound's Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)(e.g., Google the phrase "butane MSDS" or "n-butane MSDS"). It will tell you all you need to know.
Yes, if one is breathing any of it in, which doesn't happen if the butane lighter is used properly.

I don't know about butane, but I can tell you this:

I use either or, a bic or a jet lighter filled with butane to light a bee's waxed hemp 'wick'.

I use the wick because it limits my use of butane, allows me a leisurely light of any sized bowl from deep into a 3" high chamber to a small taster sized bowl.

Cooler lights, no ash tray filler, cleaner lights, and once it is part of your routine, it's second nature.

Brian64 Which is interesting, because you can actually watch yourself behaving in this terrible way, but you can't control it.

I don't think it personally matters since the butane burns and turns back into a carbon compound upon ignition. Sometime's a residue is left but you get more of that residue from the tobacco itself. This is why most people do not inhale pipe tobacco or cigars. But I have been using butane lighters and I don't inhale. I can still run without losing my breath like most cigarette smokers do. Hope this helps with your answer. Welcome to the forum.
