Update.
Again, thanks all for the comments. Dave760, just an FYI: I’m 70 years old. At the eight week mark I took my air cast off and I’ve been walking on it ever since. There is no limp and no pain to speak of. I am taking it easy though. One day at a time.

Thanks for the update. Good to hear you are recovering.

When I started reading your story, I thought it would end with flames. As winter kicks in leading many pipe smokers to construct makeshift smoking quarters, a gentle word of warning is a community service.

Last night I worked late at my office and noticed two of three outside lights needed replaced.

I have a chair I use to change those bulbs, and I took it outside and climbed on the seat, and the next procedure is to climb up on the arms and change the bulb.

Then I remembered an old lawyer friend of mine, just over 90, who fell down changing a light bulb in his office and now sleeps to wake no more because of it.

I thought better of it and got down, put the chair back in the waiting room.

My wife asked what I was doing, and I said making work for a younger man who would bounce if he fell off.:)

shikano53:

Don't feel bad; I fell off of the top of a four-foot step-ladder while taking "just a moment to clean the gutters along the front porch" prior to a thunderstorm a number of years ago. Yes, I was standing on the very top of the ladder (this despite the red-embossed warning on it that states, "DANGER DO NOT STAND OR SIT").

My momentary insanity cost me a severed tendon atop my right shoulder, expensive surgery (thank God for insurance!) to correct it, weeks of painful recovery, and physical therapy to regain the full use of my arm. My orthopedic surgeon wryly observed that, "Men over 40 ought not to climb ladders." Since then I heartily agree with him.

I hope your recovery is speedy and uneventful!
