I’ve made continuous improvement over the past several weeks. Over the Thanksgiving weekend I was able to walk across most of downtown Ashland without difficulty. I’m still not walking normally without a cane, but the side to side swaying is much reduced and the focus is on stretching out my hips, so new exercises added to the existing routine. Hopefully I’ll recover in a couple more months.
Still no firm diagnosis from the MRI, but as long as the trajectory is positive, that’s all that matters.
You have my sympathies, Jesse. I’ve been through something quite similar on a couple occasions, and recovered. You will, too.

Just a little update. From not being able to walk more than 20 feet, and only in excruciating pain, I managed to walk a mile, with some discomfort but not a lot and with the aid of my trusty cane. It may have had something to do with the allure of an Indian lunch buffet about 1/2 a mile from my townhouse spurring me on. In any event, with Max walking alongside to steady me if needed, we made it to the restaurant, celebrated with a delicious meal, and walked back.
A couple of days later, my physical therapist took measurements and was very pleased with my progress. It’s still going to be months of doing the exercises, but things continue to improve.
Thanks again for your encouragement.

Hang in there Jesse.
Back issues are so tedious, as are the back exercises. I recommend you keep them up, and continue walking that mile for Indian.
My thoughts are with you.

I haven't been on here for a good while. I'm sorry I missed this situation. I've always greatly enjoyed your posts and replies! I'm also very sorry to hear you have been dealing with this! I had spinal surgery three years ago and have been miserable ever since. I never had back pain before the surgery, now it is constant. It was a nerve issue in my left arm that required the procedure. I truly believe I would have preferred losing the use of my arm to the pain and lack of mobility I have now. Get well, Sir!

Thank you for your kind remarks. I sincerely hope that you find release from your pain.

About 9 years ago I lost the use of my left arm due to overuse, and being left handed, and a professional artist, this was devastating.

I did some research and found a neurosurgeon with a very favorable reputation and was able to book an appointment. My neurosurgeon didn't want to do the neck surgery, a triple neck fusion, as he referred to it as "particularly barbaric procedure" and put me onto a physical therapy regimen, with the stipulation that if I saw no improvement in 6 months we could revisit the surgical options. Six months went by, not a lot of improvement, but I pressed on and after 10 months, regained the use of my left arm.

I would suggest that you revisit the treatment you had, with a different doctor, to see if anything can be done. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
