This is an interesting development, perique is too terroir specific to be truly replicated outside St. James but there have been experiments with giving the barrel pressure fermentation treatment to stuff besides St. James grown burley. Katerini comes to mind, I've never had it

French grapes grown outside France are still different because of soil and weather conditions. Hell Cuban seed tobaccos grown in Nicaragua and DR are very different from each other and from grown in Cuba.
But they've done experiments at La Poche in the past where even field to field, individual barrels gave different results which is a main reason why it all gets blended to maintain some form of consistency. Each farm is going to have it's own characteristics regardless. 31 Farms that C&D made a deal with (also down in St. James) definitely had some distinct characteristics compared to previous perique they had used from LA Pocho or elsewhere.

Like anything, it will have a house characteristic but I don't argue "St. James" is a characteristic itself.

I know either Per Jensen or Russ Oullette did a limited series based on highlighting the differences in the different sections of the parish

They should talk to McDonald's. A Big Mac in Singapore tastes exactly the same as one from San Bernardino, California.

It was Russ, and he did TWO series of blends showcasing Periques from different parts of St. James Parrish.
The first was the Golden Triangle series done for Hearth and Home, IIRC, and the second one was done with Mark Ryan and was distributed under a special label featuring Russ’ name.
One of my very favorite Va/Pers was GP-11 from that second series. I bought over 30 tins of that one and still have 8 or 9 of them.
